he's asking why our country doesnt have health insurance for everybody.
The reason is we, the US, are a capitalist country and take the stance that in order to gain (health insurance) from the country, we have to contribute back by working a job. The company we work for then pays a majority of your health insurance.
I would guess that most pro skiers don't work for a company that will pay for their health insurance so they dont have any or very little coverage.

Do you mean that most pros dont have insurance??
Its because they are too much of a risk for the insurance companies since they are basically guarunteed to geta return on their claim.

insurance is a terrible thing. Car insurance is the worse thing ever invented

Car insurance should just be built into the gas price. So if you drive less then you pay less and vice-versa.

Errr.. why?
Anyways, the social system in america is that you buy your own private heatlh care insurance, and depending on the quality of it, it will pay some or all of your health care costs. Problem is insurance must be damn expensive if you're a pro skier, seen as most insurance companies ask (in fact all) for background info to evaluate the risk in covering you and then chare your accordingly. If you aren't insured you will pay for your health care. I believe there is something for the extremely poor who can't afford insurance though.
In Canada, everyone is covered by the same, government insurance policy. So anyone who gets sick in any way is taken careof for free. Problem is that health care system, even though it's mostly good, is sometimes too long since everyon e is on the same list. Somewhere in between the two would be better.
So yeah, a Canadian skier like Marc-André should get all the healthcare he needs for free. But for paralysis, I of course don't really know the specifics.

although canada has totally covered medical care, they take out the extra money to pay for it in taxes, so you lose more of your income to the government. the way i think most americans (at least the americans i know that support our healthcare) look at it is that they want to keep as much of their money as they can. they dont want the money that they worked so hard to earn to go to the government to pay for other people. its kind of a selfish point of view, but on the other hand, in canada and other places that have national health care your hard earned dollers can go to pay for some homeless alcoholic who never contributed to shit except his own destruction. both sides have their own argument, but personally, i think that health care should be a nationally provided service. people deserve help when they're sick

thats would be the sickest thing ever! cept for....we would all be paying for really shitty dangerous dirvers...which would suck, so if you fuck up in your dirving ad bunch then you should have to pay more fo your own.

Two completely different tax structures and very pointless to compare.

Don't try to lump all Americans into this.....we really haven no say at how much we get taxed, as far as tax rates in different tax brackets. thats up to the government.

Socialized health care. I'm so glad I live in the U.S. for that reason. I don't want the money that I earn going to some lazy bastard so he can go to the doc's. Also socialized health care tends to provide substandard health care.
