This is huge. Scientists in Addis Abbaba found the link between the early Ardipithecus and Australopithecus and modern human forms now.

actually i am farily well educated thank you but i havent slept in three days and am also very stoned writing a paper about poetic realism versus post modernism..its actually sorta trippy right now. good times.

aaand just because it's not the missing link it does link the two species which is actually a big deal
it is a big deal for this reason:
it links the homo erectus and the homo sapiens...the only problem is.. we are homo sapien sapiens and not homo sapiens. but this new discovery displayed signs of using tools and standing up straight just like the homo erectus did...and thus...links the former to the latter and voila.

actually i know quite a bit about this discovery as my aunt has a PhD in anthropology and is heavily involved so thats how i know... her and her colleagues and the scientists involved are fairly excited about this discovery actually

and while i would like to say that thoughts on creationism (that one was for you lanks) and evolution are not mutually exclusive, it does, however, reassure me that evolution is not the alternative. there are some who belief in both i myself belief in both god and evolution but my beliefs in god are fairly complex and have absolutely nothing to do with any religion.

but also its important to realize that anthropologists are always making "educated" guesses...i mean everything is an educated guess except for 2+2=4 u know what i mean.

it says the new skeleton links the earliest known man (Ardipithecus) to 'lucy'(Australopithecus) the previously earliest known man, completing the chain. It actually fills the blank spectrum of evolution that would link us to apes. So eat shit creationist mormon/catholic/stupid fucks and STFU n00B.

Wow the timing on this is ridiculous.

I'm taking a human evolution class (Anthropology 110 or something) and this is exactly the stuff we study.

I'm not normally a bitch but you guys found this shit for me so I might send it over to the prof/TA to suck up (lord knows I don't show up to class very often)

And all the intellectual elitism in here needs to stop... I go to an ivy league school! (ooooohhhhh) haha.

Yeah I go to U. Penn.

I'm actually a Mechanical Engineer (physics/calc) taking this class for "fun" so to speak.

AKA they give more A's and B's in this dept than anywhere in engineering.

I have a tough time believing they found visual language x million years ago though... that type of stuff hasn't been seen until a couple hundred thousand years ago at the oldest.

Anthro is a fun class though, I actually find it interesting so that's a plus over anything else I've taken.

ALL links are found from lucy to homo sapiens sapiens? might want to check on that little bit of info...

have you seen what lucy is? it's like a leg bone, a bit of a jaw and a few ribs and from that the first "link" was found.

"links" have been found up to homo sapiens if that. we're nowhere near finding all the links, if there are any to be found. funny, also, that we associate similarity to obvious eveolutionnary linkage.
could these all be seperate species of ape that actually have the same amount of linkage that chimps and gorillas have? nah.

Lucy is ~40% complete...

if anybody tells you that they know the evolutionary tree following Lucy than they are full of it. My prof even scoffs at the concept when people bring it up in class.

The fossil record is essentially a joke at this point (even with this new piece). Every fossil introduces a new species that is POSSIBLY a human ancestor and the links between each one are SKETCHY at best.

i absolutely adore that you didnt mix up the word monkey and apes as most ppl do.
apes and monkeys are of two completely different families and lines of heritage.
