Hey, just wondering what you guys would suggest for my size, im about 5'7 and 120 lbs, id be buying for next season though so id want something to grow into, 170 sound right?
if you wanna grow into it then yeah ~170 is good..
anywhere between 165-170 and you will be sweet.
also depends n the stiffness of the ski.
there would be a big difference if you rode a 170 karma and a 170 t-hall for instance..
coz you dont weigh much, if you are getting a stiff ski, you will have to work it much more - just get good thigh muscles.
I myself like a longer ski. Im about 5 10 and i ski 183's. the longer skis make landings easier but they can be more dificult to flex if you are light. For you i would go anywhere from 170 to 178. something like the volkl dogan 178 would be good or ar5s in the 176. for me the longer the ski the better.
^ its not about your height, its about how much you weigh, but if you prefer longer skis, its all about what your comfortable with.
Here's a scale i've made:
If your going to buy your skis at a big chain sports store, like sportchek or something, don't ask them how big your skis should be because they will you shouldnt ski anything over 175
pick up some older skogans, i have a pair they are great very soft for me, (im 160 pounds) so they will be real fun and they are very durable but may be difficult to find. maybe some 07 invaders
that scale is complete bullshit and dont try to tell me otherwise and your reccommendation of size is complete bullshit.anywhere from 170-185 should be fine depending on his ability, what hes skiing, weight, flex, and agressiveness.
First you should find out what ski you want, then the length.
If its strictly a park ski stay 170-175-give or take a cm or 2. If its an all mountain ski go from 175-180. If its a pow/big mountain ski go from 178-185. Again all of this depends on different factors. Just dont go below 170.
If i weighed 150lbs I wouldnt be on a ski smaller than 185. Its all about personal preference. We need more information. What skis did you like? What skis didn't you like? What lengths do you like? What terrain are you skiing? Is this going to be an addition or a quiver or a one ski quiver? Whats your ability? Are you agressive? Are you still growing? If so, how much do you think?
All of that plays a role in ski size, depending on which ski you go with. More information is needed. Any repsonses you got are based off of personal preferences and not for you. If you havent demoed already try to do so. Try out a friends ski. Go to a shop and see if they have demoes.
i like a stiff ski as i just stopped racing and i like the ability to hold a nice carve going down the groomers, but i also want a ski that can hold its own in the park, im not doing htat many rails, none acutally, but ill start next year, im just getting into park skiing, i can 3 and i almost got a 5 (but i didnt have tiwns so that ended kinda badly), i was htink the 169 karmas?
like the gentleman said dont go under 170. All park and stiff dont really go together. Go with something that will ski great but still flex when you need it too. Volkl dogan 178s ski like a dream all over the mountain and have a even flex down the entire ski. I rode them for 2 months and if you take care of them and dont bash them the duribility should hold up alright. Buy next years model if you do get them. I herd there are a few improvements in the ski. I was to agressive on mine and broke the core. But if you are just starting out on them you shouldnt have that problem. I wanted another pair but couldnt get any cuz they didnt make very many last season. You are goign to grow so go with a ski that is longer so u can use it for a wile if needed. You will find out that longer skis are more forgiving in the park and make landings much easier. If i were your i wouldnt even consider a ski under 175 but thats just me cuz i like a long ski. I think you would like the volkl dogans in the 178.
to all those people bashing my scale, i also said it depends what your comfortable with, so before you guys go reight to saying: "that's shit" or " i weigh ___ and i ride ___" read the whole post.
That scale was meant to give him an idea, if he isnt comfortable with the size to weight ratio, thats fine.
