Some thoughts on Team Vids (24/7)

Ok, incase you don't know Poor Boyz Production is developing an oakley team video slated for release next fall. It will be called '24/7' or '24/7 This is our Life' and of course feature oakley's sponsored atheletes.
I believe this to be a huge step forward for skiing as a sport. Many other mature sports release team videos each year, skiing is finally joining them. This of course includes snowboarding and to a much greater extent, skateboarding. Almost all videos in skating are based on teams. It also shows that the size of skiing has grown to the point where there is enough talented skiers to produce enough videos in a season so that teams videos can be justified and not take away from the other released videos.
Why is this a good thing? Well for one thing, it the number of people who ski has grown to the point where enough team videos can be sold to justify their cost. It also shows that team managers and people making decisions in these companies are starting to come around, they are beginning to relize what will sell product and what skiers care about. Young people who know what's up in the sport are beginning to take the helm in these companies rather than 60 year old CEO's who until recently have only been concerned with selling race skis and allmountain skis, the method for selling and advertising those skis do not apply to twins.
I foresee that companies with young, smart marketers in the driving seat will catch on to team vids. This includes companies such as Armada and Dynastar. Hopefully over the next few seasons, the trend of team videos increases and the trend of crappy jib flicks produced by companies who don't know what's up in the sport (TGR's Salad Days) decreases.
Just my thoughts on what could and should happen in the industry.

Whoops, I forgot to mention that I don't expect skiing to ever reach the amount of team and shop videos that skating has for two prime reasons. One being that a ski movie is harder and more expensive to make than a skatemovie. And secondly, the amount of skiiers will never reach that of skaters.

i totally agree. and don't forget about k2 either. they've pretty much totally changed their commitment to the newschool scene. its great to see companies taking a more active role in the sport.

with team videos how is it going to work if lots of companies want to make videos. it seems that companies like oakley and armada will have similar footage. not sure if that will happen but its possible.

when is poor boyz going to stop being a mack dawg wannabe? everything from editing styles, to music, to now movie titles. give it up. we're skiers, we should develop our own style instead of mimicing someone elses.

i hope pbp never stops making just plain pro industry films.. i rather like the vids... its cool that its progressing like that but i mean i love buying the one or two movies and seeing the best on it right away... i mean the combo of skiers on them is just unspeakable... insane!!!

what are you talking about dude? pretty much all skate videos ARE team videos. the only ones that aren't team videos are shit like 411 and friends productions where it's a colaboration. there aren't many of those. plus comp/tour vids
