Flat spin is just like, spinning through the air without corking or any of that jazz. You just gotta make sure you're centered and balanced over your skis when taking off, and when unwinding your arms (you pre-wound, right?) dont angle them or anything, try and make em parallel to the ground..works for me.
well I just do them like a rodeo, then I don't drop my rear shoulder as hard, and I keep looking at the ground longer before I look over the other shoulder. Say a 5, I would do a rodeo 5, but I would not drop my left shoulder as hard and I would pretty much put my full attention off the lip on my feet not going over my head. Then grab safety just cuz its simple with the trick and locks it in, then look down and roll out. Learn rodeos first.
Then what's a flatspin, in terms of skiing. As far as boarding is concerned, it's just a spin that is done nice and flat, not off-axis, corked, or any of that jazz. I dunno why it'd be different for skiing.. but eh.

watch some rollerblading and you'll understand...not that i rollerblade but those guys have them mastered
you are kind of spinning but your body is parallel to the ground
i've always done them where i throw the spin forward. i got my pointers from skiingmotion.com a long time ago. they said to throw your right shoulder forward as if you were checking someone in hockey or something. the key is not letting your feet go above your head, because its no longer a flatspin.
I can do them on trampoline. Very easy on trampline... but that's trampoline. It's like i spin left, so I just kick my feet up and to the left like diagonally so that at 180 my backs at the ground and you bring it out like your coming out of a lincon or a sunrise or whatever.
You flat spin by trowing you leading leading sholder back of over top of you so your head is parell with the ground(So your head horizonal not verical) as much as possible.
Watch Andy Mahre's part in the Hit List. He throws some gnarly flatspins. Especially the one where he's talking about the helicopters around him. I think its a flat 5 but its sick as fuck.
i try and hcuk like a sideflip but imagine my feet up in front of me instead of over my head and that usually works out i still kinda get inverted though
so since the question hasn't yet been answered... a flat spin 3 on skis is a backflip parrallel to the ground rather than perpendicular... you're welcome
