well, if you like more big mountain skiing then softer, if you like more park, stiffer. I think thats it, may be the other way around but im pretty sure thats right.

For park stiffer is soo much more smooth and easy..but it blows in the bumps!

i think you got it mixed up... well on the east, if you ski all mountain, and you have the skills to power it, you want a stiff ski. a soft ski is generally a more forgiving ride, and is ok if you just do park, because you don't really need the carving performance, and probably want a more forgiving landing. i ski alot of park though, and i still prefer a stiff ski, cause it gives me better pop, and i like to carve hard.

coyote said it the best... usually better skiers prefer the stiff setup too (boots and skis) so for a newbie, going soft is my suggestion... just cuz they are softer doesn't mean your wussin' out or nothin... it'll seriously help you when begining... especially in the park.

my seth pistols have a really soft tail and tip, and the waist is super stiff. its easy to pop with of park jumps, but also gives me enough stability for big mountain.

i like my pocket rockets - they are a softish ski but i'm fairly light to be riding a 175cm so i kinda get the best of both worlds.
