I just picked up a pair of pocket rockets that i want to mount some tele bindings to. I have a pair or G3's with the all mt spring on my old k2 enemys right now. i like the binding but was thinking about something releasable. not going to telepark these things, mostly a powder toy. thoughts?
my dad teles ill ask him and hit you up...is black diamond a brand? i think he has those but g3s also sound incredibly familiar cause i bought him his tele stuff for xmas a couple years ago
ya the local teleparker at heavenly is on the rotafellas. saw a guy on the bishops last year and those things look beefy! super adjustable but kind of pricey. i like the G-3's, seems to be status quo on the south shore for the telemarkers.
ya black diamond makes has ventured into the tele market for several years. i don't see too many guys on their stuff. think it is called the O-2 or something
im rockin G3 T/9s on my pistols, the titanium version of the Targas. saves weight and is stronger. but higher price tag. if you got the money, go with the bishops. if not, G3 is a proven brand and very simple. they work very well and almost every resort has G3 parts laying around. its almost universal. if you want cheap but reliable, go with the Voiles, either standard or 3 pin. very light and cheap. umm but yea, and BD(black diamond) is a good company. wait till next year if your buying BD bindings cus theyre coming out with a more powerful binding than the 02. the 01 is more powerful and it has a touring mode set in it. sick binding.
definitly a good releasable binding. if your going to get a releasable, get the karhu powers. for some reason i dont trust or like the voile CRB releasable. idunno, might work for you, but i dont trust em.
maybe just b/c i am not overly confident in pow, but i feel that is when my knees are most susceptable to injury. kind of the whole reason i want a relasable. Of course searching for a lost ski sucks when there is 2' of freshies.
you can get the CRB, but i dont trust em. they seem like theyd break to easily. i dunno. once im in my skis, i dont want to come out. ever. haha.if your want a releasable, go with karhus. they are straight bomber. and they rarely if ever pre-release. but yea, look into bombers, if you dont have that cash, G3 T/9's and Linkens would be my second choice. BD 02's tend to be soft and neautral despite BD's claim as a powerful binding.
Hardwire 3pin is a great binding for cheap. I've never used the CRB, but i think that if you don't weigh alot then it would probably work well when cranked down. I demoed 7tm's and pre released on a small cliff, but i'm sure the DIN was super low since it was a free demo. If you're a big guy, I wouldn't necessarily trust the CRB's. I don't like the feel of the 7TM's on big boards, it doesn't feel like they really transfer power to the edges well, although if you mostly ski mellow stuff, that's not so much of a problem.
i have BD 03's dont get those but if ur not tele-park like me and just using them for all mountain id got with some 7 TM's im all for the releasable binders
my buddy said the same thing. he has 2 pairs of skis, piste pipes, which are PE's with a diffrent flex pattern and G3 Reverends, which are stiff as fuck and around a 94 waist. he said he tried the Reverends with the 7tms and they sucked. exactly what this guy said, no edge transfer for a big ski. the binding seemed soft and had no power.
however he does have the 7tms on his piste pipes, and loves em. he got mad when i didnt buy em. for smaller skis, they work magic. get the din right, and theyre awsome. never seen him pre-release. so depends what kind of ski your getting. light and somewhat small, 7tms are awsome. bigger, heavier and/or fatter. its a big no no.
the pocket rockets i am going to mount them too are not as fat as the reverand but a little fatter then the piste pipes. pretty soft ski too. good info though, lots to chew over
i had those for a year in a 185. flexy as fuck man. good ski though, just for me, way to soft. it all depends on your riding though, insanely nice tele ski, just not for me. but you arnt gonna have any problem muscling those around, so if you dont wanna dish out the cash for bombers which win in all cases, you could go with the Hardwire which is light, but strong. but yea, the rockets are light and soft.
update, thanks for all the beta on bindings. I ended up going with the voile hardwire releasable. looks clunky but worked great in that 18" heavenly got the other day. lot more control over my G 3's. really made tele skiing in powder a LOT easier and much more enjoyable.
yeah, i am pretty much lookin for the 7tm power non-releasable. i have ridden them and they were awesome.
linkens are expensive, but from what ive heard from friends they are awesome.
but what other bindings can you recommend? i am looking for a binding with the possibility to get alot of power on the ski (expert bindings), and it should be durable and solid. better non-releasable.
well actually 3pin releasable dosnt get the greatest edge transfer. its good, but you can definitly get better. linkens are not expensive to the guy a couple posts up. they retail for an insane amount of money for what they are, but you can find em on ebay or websites for around 140 or 150. thats pretty standard for tele bindings. awsome edge transfer, especially if your the type that stands tall during your turns. if you stand tall and have say a G3 binding or a Voile, your not going to get great edge control. the linken or bomber however, because they are plate bindings, will transfer the energy alot better to your edges. it sounds like you want a plate binding to me, you want high edge power right? the 7TM power is good, bombers, linkens, and Voile makes a plate binding called the VP-II but i have no clue about that. coming from voile its gonna be pretty good and reliable. but yea, you want a plate binding.
