RIP - Doug Coombs killed in Avalanche today

I am making a new thread because the first post of the other one seemed to be confusing people.
Doug Coombs, one of the most prolific ski mountaineers ever, was sadly killed today in an avalanche around La Grave.
This is just another hit to a community that has expirenced way too much tragedy this season.
My hopes and prays are for his family. ++++++++ Vibes to his wife Emily and baby son David. I can't even imagine what they are going thru.
I can't even believe how empty/hurt this is making me. I've never even met Coombs.
Everyone - stay safe and don't take life for granted. Doug was one of the most knowledgeable BC users in the world. He knew as much as anyone on travelling safely in the BC and dealing with avalanche hazard.
RIP Doug Coombs

He may be considered old school now, but he was new school as a pioneer.
I've watched a lot of Warren Miller movies featuring him, and it's too weird and sad to think that he's gone.
RIP

an update for those interested.....
The name of the second skier killed was Chad Vander Ham of Silverton, CO.
Both Chad Vander Ham and Doug Coombs were killed following a fall, cause either by sluff or ice, down a 200m cliff (jesus....).
A doctor arrived on scene by helicopter very soon after the accident, but both had already died from their injuries.

Thank you Doug for inspiring generations of skiers. You are a true hero and your legend will continue to influence skiers around the globe. Your signature and poster have been there with me since you came to little Burlington, VT and will stay on the wall in my room where ever I go. Rest in Peace and happy turns.

I'll post more when I get it:
I have very sad news that Doug lost his life when skiing a steep couloir
called Polychannel yesterday afternoon. He was skiing with three other
friends when the first skier , Chad fell over a cliff. Doug skied over
to see what had happened when also Doug fell near the same place. We
have not fished the report yet of what really happened ! It will be
announced later on today to the AMGA.

Doug was such an icon for the early stages of Freeride skiing. He had a serious knowledge of the mountains, and was... and still is an influence of hardcore skiing then and now. He was doing something he loved when He went out...something for all of us to think about.

Coombs has impacted a whole generation of skiing. AK heli skiing would not be the same without him. let this be a lesson for everyone no matter ur experience: respect the mountain, it can take the best of us anytime it wants, as it has and will continue to do. i pray for his family.rip doug.

does anyone have the pic of Coombs shredding the icefalls line. i believe it was him, and is one of the most technical lines i've ever seen a pic of. if you know where to find it please post.

bump - how come this never made it to the front page? I just found out about it today. Coombs was one of the only big mountain segments that I'd watch in movies - in Ski Movie 2 when he splits the song with Pollard? Classic for me. thats a horrifying story.
