I didn't like their park at all this year. 95% of the jumps were step-ups, and all the rails we sketchy. They didn't do a very good job maintaining the park either. Oh well Big Jay is where its at anyway.
i was a park ranger at jay and hey only would hire me 2 days a week cuz thats all they could afford. but the big air was sick...check my pics for peeps...and the reason they were all step ups is because we had no snow and all rain last year, and we werent allowed to make snow after january 28th, because our budget was out...sorry...not much for improvments next year. i moved to CO i couldnt stand the rainy east coast, trying to get a job as vail park ranger....
big jay is to the left as you go down the VTer....its about a 45 minute hike to it, but the cliffs and pow are worth it.
their park was decently fun every time I've skied it, just don't go on a cold windy day(many days in mid winter) Big Jay is crazy though, deepest snow of my life, you cut off a trail just after getting off the tram, its marked with a "ski at your own risk" sign.
just wondering cause when i was biking up there, I saw a backcountry sign that was on the right side of the tram (when looking up). I think it was on the very top of northway. all i remember is that the trail sort of goes off to the beyond beaver glade area, to the area that they are trying to expand to.
Im not quite sure if you go off the frontside or the backside of the mountain...
oh yea, i remember that opening to the backcountry or whatever was near a trail. i think it was called ullr's dream.
ps. does anyone know where the long trail is on jay? I have a feeling that this trail might be it, but I don't know
