Slipped disc/ pinched sciatic nerve in my spine

so yeah i slipped a disc which pinched my nerve, not sure how probably a hard impact landing, and overtrainning for running.
Anyways I did this about 5 weeks ago, my school pays for physio so i see them a couple times a week. They predict it will be atleast month till I can start trainning for running again.
Frankly I dont care about the runnning I just care about the skiing. I cant ask them how long it will be till I can ski, because varsity athletes arnt supposed to be doing other sports, and they wont pay for all the physio if they find out its a non-related injury.
So I'm wondering if any of you guys have done this and how long did it take you to hit the slopes?

I did that the first time about 8 years ago in highschool. I've hurniated it several times since. Last October I was lifting and had it go again. This time was by far the worst. I was nearly bed ridden for 2 weeks and couldn't hardly stand to take a piss on my own. I was trainging for a marathon at that time and they told me I probably would never be able to do distance runs again. It took me about a month to straighten out and at least another couple weeks before I could get back in the gym. The MRI said I've got degenerative disk disease in my L5 disk. They tell me I'll probably have problems the rest of my life but said surgury at my age could cause even more problems. You just gotta be careful, make sure you're 100% before you get back to a normal routine. Trust it gets more and more severe every time you reinjure it. It definatly effects my skiing, one hard landing and I'm out of commision for a month so it's scary. There's tons of excersises you can do to help prevent it down the road so you shouldn't have to worry. msg me if you have any questions.

This is a problem that I have lived with for the last 6 years of my life. I have a buldging (slipped) L3 disk. It pinches the nerve before it splits, so I have pain down both of my legs. You need to be very very careful because putting strain on it now will lead to more permanant damage. It took me out for 1/2 a season, then i went back to skiing, but my life has never been the same. I have had this pain for the entire time and I experience it every minute of every day.... Be very very careful and get if fixed asap. Surgery should definitely be your last option, do physio, go to a good accupuncturest, massage, heat therapy....anything except surgery unless nothing is working...then it may be your only option. Sory you have to go through this...it sucks.
