For over 16 years the main family pet has been this black lab of ours, she has been with me every day of my life. When I was little she was my guardian, my dad never had to worry about me playing outside because she would drag me home by the diper if I went to far. She was always my best friend on those long summer days when I would go play outside, she was my Lassie on more than a few occasions, but I wont get into all the details. Recently she has been slipping away, she is pretty old for a dog, we dont know exactly how old she is because my parents got got her as an adult in 1990, before I was born. She was always like super man, she was run over by a milk truck twice with a total of 3 broken legs between the two, and she jusk continued on. Now old age is starting to settle in and she has a dying loom in her eyes...my dad says she has less than a week. I feel like a real pussy posting this but I dont care, I hope there are a few people here that have something to say. Thanks for reading.
Not much of a condolence, but dying of old age is something to be thankful for. Once my mom saw two stray dogs hit at an intersection in broad daylight...she was a little shaken up, to say the least.
sorry to hear that man. i know what its like having a dog dying.
i had a 4 year old golden retriever, my mom took him to the park and a dog walker with an alpha male pit bull was off leash and attacked my dog and crushed the artery in his neck. i wasn't there it was just my mom, i feel bad, she had to put him in the back of the car and get to the vet as fast as possilbe, i don't know if she burned any lights, i won't hold it against her if she didn't.
now we have a new golden retriever from the same breeder, this dog is from the same father as my last one but the mother is the sister of my old dogs mother, if i can recall.
i see a lot of traits in my old dog in the new one. i still miss the old one, but life goes on and the memory lives on through the new one since it would be my old dogs half brother.
go to my profile and you can see a picture of him with me taken in vermont.
yea my dog was the shit back in the day...big old golden retriever, known my whole life until i was 12...he was 16 then and he had bad arthritis...i remember he was stuck in the yard and couldnt get up the night before they put him down...i stayed out there for hours with him :(
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. but think of the life that she has lived. not many dogs reach 16 years. and you and your family seem to have been really nice to her.
I have a dog too and I love her so much, I hate the thought that she'll die one day.
