well, im sure many of you remember me talking about building skis, and this summer, me and my friend (snowboarder) are starting a company. we are gonna start saving, get some money, buy supplies, printers, all that stuff. we are probably gonna set up a vac press in my shed. Also, when your building stuff like this, snowboards are way easier to build, cause you dont have to worry about constructing 2 identical boards, just one. they are also a ton cheaper, cause you need more than double the edge material, and thre are other stuff too, but we are still gonna build both. i cant wait.

hey dumbass, we are 16 and 17, and i actually know what were doing. I have spent last summer building longboards, which got me introduced into composites, and i plan to build a good number of very high preformance skates this year too.

well, i have been planning on building skis over summer all winter. never really a company. but i was talkin to him about it, and he was gettin real excited so i asked if he wanted to start a little garage company with me. he is real into it, has fundage, and is a great guy to ride with. i have been workin on teachin him about composites, and how boards and skis are built, that stuff. We really havent thought of a name, if yah got any suggestions, feel free to post. there might be a few other guys helpin out too, but him and me are the only ones goin at it for shure. we are gonna buy a nice, wide-ass epson priter for subliminating our graphics. for those who dont know, this is what big compainies do. it bonds the grapics into the plastic. with these techniques, we will be able to add real graphics to all sorts of shit, as long as it is polyester. that means goggles too!

he's made a few longboards and when he talks about making skis, he seems to know what he's talking about. I think the hardest part of it would be getting the edges right.

Well I make longboards too, so good luck. I am starting my own appareal company this summer too. I have just ordered a press so I can get to work. Everyone says starting your own company isn't possible, and it's up to people like us to prove them wrong. NEVER GIVE UP and GOODLUCK!

I really wanna get into this cause I wanna ride some skis that are literally, made for me. I have a bunch of skier friends that are quite a bit older than me and better at technical stuff like, Kyle graduated a couple years ago, and Rich is dumb so he does correspondance, and yeah. Making skis would rock.
Good luck with your company dude.

oh my god. i thought this post was gonna die a few hours after i made it! shit i have alot of q's to answer huh?
-Ok. i live in NE ohio, and it sucks.
-I am working on posting pics of a graphic i made today, should be up in a few minutes.
-Yes, it is Brad Derek, if you and ben wanna help, feel free to. we will need to spred out cost.
-We will probably build 3 or 4 skis and snowboards over summer. it will mostly be testing, to get construction methods right. like i said, snbrds are eaiser to make, so the forst few projects will be snowboards. besides, i would like to learn to snowboard.
-for anyone that wants a little background info stuff like this, ill post some links below the final part of this. A ski press, is just something that puts pressure on the laminates durring the layup process. we will probably be using a Vac press, which is basicly a plastic bag with a special vac pum attached to it. Expensive, no, you can fin decent pumps in old refridgerators. ok, im all typed out. ill try and post some graphics in here in a few.
-1 idea for a company name is blackbox. like the things in airplanes.
some links.
Silverfish- awsome longboard site very similar to NS. the forums are filled with help. search the 'Board Building' before posting something thats been said a thousand times. (i am Sidewalk_surfer on that site)there is an article right there that would be a good way to start. Roarocket boards
http://www.silverfishlongboarding.com/index.php
Here is the site i found most of my info. It is a great site, youll def understand how shit is built. and if ya wanna designing you own skis, download snowcad2. very cool

i used to work in a snowboard factory that used the same type of press that you are talking about, it cost probably 2500 to make a press, and there is a bit more to it than you think, you got to come up with a shape, then you have to make these things called cassettes they cost probably 350 to make, and the resin you need is also expensive along with the hardener that is liek 700.00 for the two of those for a barrel of each, base material is roughly about 10.00 a board similar for skis, the cores are pretty spendy, inserts for boards are about.18 a piece, top sheets are spendy best bet would to have someone do it for you such as co. called the woodshed they print graphic or sublimate graphics onto topsheets and base material, the machines you would need to do it yourselves you cost you several thousand dollars close to 6 digits if not. pretty much you are in over your head unless you have an ass load of money. its not that hard to actually make them its just the amount of money it takes to get the materials and get started. and whoever said the edges woudl be tricky that is the easiest part, the edges come all ready in the shape you want and you just glue them to the base material, that is like the second step of making a board or skis with this particular method. but anyway good luck and i do know a lot about this so if you do have questions just holla.

that's tight that you're starting a company man! You should make your skis with equal hight tips and tails and centred binding mounts, only if you do Line might get all pissed off.

wow, i almost feel bad about shattering your dreams and all, but you have no idea what you're doing, you need to work in a real ski factory so you can understand what really goes into making a ski. this is just like a lemonade stand that you would set up as a kid, waste a bunch of time and lose money on the lemonade you didnt sell and all the materials you made your spiffy lemonade stand with

Well you have to start somewhere. Sure it will be tough to make skis, but it is definatly not impossible. If he is truley dedicated, he will make it work, so props to him.
