Despite what ive read on NS about people saying that stls are soft and buttery and AR5s are stiff, my friends swapped skis today (05/06 Stls and 04/05 AR5s) and apparently the Stls are a hell of a lot stiffer than the AR5s which i found to be a medium flex.
im 187 lbs and 6'4, but i only used the AR5s which i found to be rather poppy but definitely not soft. My friends are ~160 6', and ~170 6'4. They both said the Stls were stiff.
Once you break them in STLs are really soft. Not noodles, like the oldschool AR5s but pretty soft. My friend has some of the 06 Armadas in a 176 and he has worked em pretty good, but in my opinion my STLs are alot softer, considering we both started using em this year.
yeah the stls are really poppy but they arent stiff, i think they just dont flex as much as my ar5's, cause my ar5's are stiffer but they flex more than my stls so they seem softer in a way.
i really dont see how u can say stls are stiff in any way possible...they r soft along with the ar5s...have u ridden a stiff ski before?? like the karma or mojo 80
Ive ridden Ar5s, STLs, Oldschool heads, and Laroses. In order I feel it goes
STLs-Softest
AR5s-fairly Soft
Laroses-(Not broken in) Stiff and poppy
and Heads Stiff as fuck.
no not at all. you guys are talking about your experiences riding them for a day or two. Im the friend btw, I owned and skied 05 ar5s for 1 1/2 years and have had the 06 stls for about 1/2 year. the stls arent way stiffer then the ar5s but are a noticable amount and especially in the tails. this is for a more stable ride switch and cleaner poppy take offs. the buttering capability is similar but the stls are most undoubtly stiffer. the stls are supposed to ease into a similar stiffness as th ar5s as they age.
