there are alot of great helmets out there. i personally love giro. i own two giro nine helmets - one with a visor. the 9 is lighter than most helmets due to construction and it is very comfortable. go with giro - nine, g10, fuse, or bad lieutenant depending on style preferance. plus, you can get the tuneups kit for any of these helmets(if you don't know - tune ups are speakers in the ear pads of the helmet so you listem to your tunes without having earphones in your ears or craming them under your helmet).
I bought a bad leutenant last year and i didn't like the way it sit on my head... it could just be my head but i find pro-tec helmets hold your head better and their just as light soo its a good feel all togeather, go pro tec!
Thanks for the input guys. Giro is the direction I was thinking of before this thread and I'm a lot more sure now.
Does anyone know what the difference is between all their helmets? Doesn't seem to be just style because the price ranges differ quite a bit between them. So in general what's the difference between their helmets?
More specifically, does anyone know the difference between the G10 and the G10 MX? It's not just the visor is it?
Oh and also, about the tuneups, I've got a few questions.
1) When separately buying tuneups for a helmet, do they integrate the same exact way they do if you were to buy the helmet already with tuneups or not as well?
2) Anyone know exactly how then Tuneup II's work? When you get a phone call will you hear it in the earphones while the music is playing or do you have to hear the actual phone ring? Also, when you do get a call, does it pick up automatically or do you press a button? Thanks a lot!
alot of it is just style. the other main issue is venting and construction. bad l. has no vents on top,i believe. 9 has round vent holes and removable pieces to allow airflow. 10 has a more angled look to it, not sure if the vents work the same as the 9. fuse has a lever you flip to open or close vent without removing any pieces. mx = visor. tune ups are the same whether you buy it with the helm or after. you end up swapping out the whole earpiece if you purchase them after the helm. if you are buying brand new from shop, just get the one with the tuneups -it will be cheaper. if you ebay it, you might save money adding the tuneups later.
ah, thanks a lot powder. Yes, I am buying it brand new and the reason I want to buy the helmet and the tuneups separately is becuse the G10 with Tuneups is glossy black only and I want Matte Black. If you know otherwise please tell me =). Other than that I was just wondering, what difference does the visor make? What's it for?
my g10 mx came with tuneups II and it matte black. the visor is just for knocking branches out of the way when you dip your head down through a glade or something.
the only real differences are that the more expensive ones are more comfortable. the only down part of the bad leiutinant or however you spell it is that it doesnt have vents
