Should the US police the world?

what do you think the role of the US is? should we just sit around and watch countries in need suffer, or should we take action and help these countries?

ps...this will also help me write a term paper

i dont know what youre referring to when you say the US can take over the world.

How?

North Korea alone has more troops ion their army than the US does. The US cant invade.

Tell me how you think the US can "take over"

According to that the USA has 400,000 more "troops", but that listing includes things like the US coast guard and so forth... so odds are it's pretty close.

Interesting. Even though it is difficult to gauge the accuracy of third hand information.

Sort of off topic, but do you know if any of those nation stats include police force? Or that many military states really don't have much to distinguish between policemen and soldiers?

But thats just the thing. Where do you draw the line as to what is "our business?" Many would argue if something has any kind of political or economic ramifications, it IS our business. It's even harder to draw a line with globalization becoming a reality of life.

dude you realize basically every major non government organization that helps 3rd world countires except for world vision is from canada... ie. greenpeace, doctors without borders, free the children, the maquila solidarity network, and many others. i have no problem with americans the american governments foriegn policy i have a problem with, and it bothers me when people are anti-american because that is basically judging someone because of where they are from... but to tell you the truth... most of the world hates americans.

but when there are more people in california then all of canada it is easy for the united states gross donations to be greater than canadas. but if you look at donation per capita canada has the states owned.

Well, you're right, but as far as donations go Canada still isn't doing all that much, relatively. In terms of per capita, % of GDP, and any other way you look at it besides the total dollar amount, Scandinavian countries are at the top, The USA isn't even in the top 10 (14th, I think), and Canada hovers around the 10 mark.

Of course numbers matter, but its only a piece of the puzzle. A brilliant commander is much more difficult to overcome than sheer numbers. Not to mention the comparisons of training and technology. War is won by much more than then the number to troops.

Impossible. International policing is a ridiculous idea. There are too many cultures and too many differences between those cultures. It would take years and years of training for an "international police force" to truly understand and appreciate these cultures and until they did, any attempts to police them would be a total disaster. Iraq is a prime example.

Were you given this essay title or did you choose it? Just reading the title runs a shiver down my spine. What a terrifying thought.
