Shane's pontoons - crazy binding mount

So I was "kicked down" a pair of shane's pontoons, 179cm...all white, blue sidewall...the bindings he had mounted (marker comp 18s) where set on angles ....picture a duck foot stance...

or a big "V"....looks painful to ski, but just shows how much he is willing to think outside the box and try shit we may not think of...

I may try them tommorrow at alpine as they are...but will remount them asap to a NORMAL mount...

teh volkls with the wallow tail also have the duckfoot mounting, so this isnt the first time its been done.

No. Seth is made up. come on now.

"Real" skiers stick to groomers and hate powder. And stop skiing at noon to crack open the tight one piece and start drinking peach schnapps, coolers, and white zinfandel.

"Real" skiers also like to jam their male "real" skier friends up the ass, through that convenient 1 piece bum flap.

I'm oh so glad that my binding selection makes me a "fake" skier.

If your doing any serious racing, then your probably familiar with sole planing and canting to bring the knees into alignment. V-stance has the same purpose in that it shifts the knee lateraly so that it tracks over the centerline of the boot/ski. It's just a different approach.

this is a really interesting thread. i'm really "duck footed" i used to get shouted at cos i run with my toes pointing out I always thought that boots would be the best place to solve this so when i got my flexons we looked at the best way to raise the arches and create a bunch of extra room on the outside of the boots. it seemed to really help, big positive difference for such a minor change. i wonder if maybe a more radical change would be even better... i guess it's just a deep pow pow thing but i'd like to give it a try.

on the cap vs sidewall matter, i never understood why so many park "specific" skis are sidewall for park i look for cheap and light, that pretty much is capped right? what is it about sidewall that park skiers like?

Scale the picture size down in Paintshop or Adobe Photoshop, something where you can alter the picture size.

They are pretty wild with that mounting point, but I am sure that they ski rad.

Hey York -

what great eyes you have - some kid who used to be on my team kept seeing John or Mike skiing on those at squaw and asked me to post a pic on a thread for him -

FYI - knee = healed (sort of)went out to alpine and skied boot deep wind pack on sunday

I find out tommorrow what the slovakadan is gonna be

I guess this is something that we might start seeing more often now that powder skis are getting so wide underfoot making it possible to get a wider angle. I'm guessing you have to do a little bit of messing around with the brakes to stop them catching on one side.

This is one of the most interesting threads on NS recently. Let us know how they ride.

I think i may have found another reason why the duck footed stance might be beneficial, knee flex. Try this, stand up with your feet like 3 inches apart and bend your knees. They hit don't they? Ok, now set your feet at a 45 degree angle and bend your knees again, they go straight don't they?

I had to bump this and bring the duck foot stance question back. Why would you really do this? After riding a pair of pontoons a lot of days now, i dont see how it would be for tip knock. I rarely ever catch the tip together, certainly nothing that any other pair of skis would not do.

I feel that an angled stance would do nothing but screw up your edge control.

Any thoughts?

Over time it would be easier on the whole lower body(knee's mostly).

Just a speculation though. There was some info on this across the way on TGR.
