Who goes here? IS it a good school. I might apply their for college and would like to know if it is hard to get into and if it is expenmsive/ a decent school Thanks.
WWU kicks ass its that simple. tuiton is cheaper than UW i'm not sure what WSU is but bellingham is a great town a lot more fun when your 21 but being so close to Baker and all the great trails and lakes makes it awesome. getting into WWU is getting harder and harder so keep up your grades and don't fuck up the SAT and you'll be fine. class sizes range from big (200-300) to very small (15-30) its a bitchin school with awesome people and an even better mountain in your backyard
yea I go to WWU and love it... it's a college town so everything you need is right there with good bus service so it's easy to get anywhere. and lets not forget Canada... just a short drive across the border where all us 19-20 yr olds can get obliterated legally but there's lots of parties every weekend. the party scene is calmer and more relaxed than the UW parties which I like. oh and it's a good school too...
3.5+ and you'll be alright... I don't know how the SAT's are graded now cuz they switched it since i took it, but if you were taking the old one if you got something better then 1100 then your golden... so whatever that converts to on the new one
I'd say Baker has some of the best terrain/backcountry in the lower 48, with a ok-shitty park if your into that stuff. Bellingham is a sick town too, I think its about +60,000.
i got into it fr next fall and still havnt decided if i am going there yet....ive spent a lot of time up there because my sis goes there and i like it a lot....i have about a 3.5 and got a 27 on my act...forgot what my sat score was tho
i just got my acceptance letter, but am undecided, i had a 3.1 with a 33 on the ACT and a 1410 on the old SAT. im unsure if im going here or not, i think it is easier for in state people to get in because i got rejected from UNH and they are about the same academically and amittence wise.
WWU is tight for sure but i bet you don't even want to ride park if you end up going here and if you do plan on buying all the BC gear cause you will want it... I hear it's harder to get into western then UW but that might not be the case. I have had the best year of skiing of my life here but if your a park rat go to Central you'll do better off there...
im good at test, bad at remembering to do homework (ns doesn't help either), the ACT score is actually better, unfortuately western's scholarships are based on academic success as well as test scores. at montana state they offered me a WUE scholarship, which make tuition like halfway between intate and out.
anyone work a baker? do they give you a free pass or a discounted pass? i might try and work there next year, just weekends probably... and in the rental shop
ya they give u a pass. you just have to give them a deposit on it then at the end of the year you get it back. working up there is pretty lame tho. i would say if your tryin to do school too work the weekends.
I think so, Im good at math so I'm taking every math class they have. next year (junior) I will be taking H. Pre calc and A.P. Stats, but no spanish!!!
god I am so happy to be done with that. worst gpa killer ever.
JEA..They call the pass that they give you an employee ID, so they can take it back. Basically, there afraid people are gonna get hired for the first two weeks, quit and keep their season pass. I guess theres some law or something that says the mountain cant take back a season pass from a worker, so they call it an employee ID. As PhadeaD said, they take $100 out of your paycheck in the begginnig of the year and you dont get it back till the end of the year.
It can be kinda lame though. I think rental/retail people get paid $7.50 an hour with a $1.00 an hour bonus at the end of the year. Each day you work you get a couple hours ride time too, shifts are from 8:00-1:00 or 11:00-4:30ish. You dont get proforms your fist year either.
They post up applications on their site in the summer, and they interview you at the Bellingham office sometime in October. If they do hire you, you go to two days of job training in the first week of November. If they dont hire you in the rental shop, you'll definetly get a job in Food Service if you want it. I also heard your first year you might not work in the rental shop, but in the retail shop, unless you have worked in the rental shop before. I dont really know for sure how its set up.
I prolly shouldnt admit this, but my job is to clean the bathrooms up there. Id say it was the most SHITTY job ever, until I started not really working...at all. My hours are to show up in the morning, help shovel off the decks if theres new snow, ride from 9:00-2:00, work from 2:00-5:00ish, and go home. I get a shuttle ride up the hill, free breakfast, free lunch, and a free pass. Dont go applying thinking your going to get my hours though because it was something I worked out with my boss and Im pretty sure Im the only one with that schedule. I dont really make that much money (about $100 every two weeks), and I only work weekends because Im still in high school.
The rental shop is usually pretty busy on the weekends, I've never seen anyone not working or taking a break. If you were to work midweek though, it's just stranded. On the really shitty midweek days I guess they watch movies on laptops.
haha, who cares, thats what we do, go off topic.. besides, baker is a major reason to go to western...
anyway, yeah a baker job sounds sick, I'll look into next year. I shouldn't have too much of a problem, I've been working at the crystal shop for the last 3 years.
You work from early november to late april then? Perfect.
As long as the snow holds up. If you work every Saturday and SUnday-part time, there gonna make you work the week and the week after of christmas full time.
Check that, you'll probably get laid off in the end of March.
And PhaedeD - good luck with that. No offense, but even if Elijah backs you up, I think you wont get the job because they usually only hire people who have worked at the mtn before.
classes are ok, but get out of the 100 lvl classes as fast as you can because they are way too big (same as everywhere i guess).
more parties than i need or want and living in the dorms is a huge distraction and a lot of fun. if you want to have a more studious dorm experience, then stay the hell away from the south side dorms: fairhaven (stack 6 has had kegs in their bathrooms twice), the ridge, BT....
plenty of bomb bud, mushies, and yeah i pick cyanescens in the fall.
oh and this year baker has been going off. tons of snow, big storms, ect.
tanner hall and others were filming up at baker during the tanksgiving week storm.
also there is no park to speak of really this year so far, too much snow to keep digging the shit out.
i have friends at UW and from what i hear the party situation sucks if your not a hot chick or in a frat. western doesnt have a greek system and is way more chill as far as that goes.
yes psilocybian mushrooms. I hunt liberty caps and cyanescens here in everett and would like to make some hunting friends for next fall. are they on NS?
