I saw it last night, i thought it was really sweet. Perfect way to overthrow your government. Lots of killing and stuff, very action filled. What are your thoughts?
Just saw it and maybe I need some time to think about it a little but I thought it was slightly better than average. I felt the story was forced and many of the themes had already been done before. People will think the movie is revolutionary because of the "overthrow your goverment" theme but that has become very trendy have since Farenheit 9/11. I didn't feel there was any suspense or surprises in the movie. I don't wanna say too much for people who haven't seen it yet. 3.5 outta 5 for me.
^ But then you remember that this is based off a comic book that came out years before the whole overthrowing government concept came around. Personally I thought the movie was so fucking badass! Seriously, it was so well put together and my favorite scenes are the ending and the dominoes part.
yeah we saw it last night, too. it was very well written. lots of symbolism everywhere throughout the movie. good action, too. not as much as i was expecting though. the domino part was sweet but who the hell has the time to do that? i suppose if you're horribly disfigured and can't go anywhere you could make time...
This movie is fucking sweet. Go see it. There are a lot of things in the film that are very similar to what our government is doing or trying to do right now. Natalie Portman is hot.
I thought it was an awesome movie. The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favorite books and this movie makes a lot of references to it. Plus V is a fucking badass.
i saw it last nite too with my g/f.. i had to explain it a bit to her but once she understood it.. andi really got a chance to watch it i thought it was an amazing movie.. very entertaining
yeah, def. not as much ill fighting as u'd think by watching the commercial. the movie was sick though. and the few fighting scenes there were were crazy. i like how they use a lot of things to kinda make fun of the u.s views on things. one example is when the people are saying that terrorists aren't human. kinda like how the government makes us think abnout terrorists now. they think they are just people that kill people for the sake of killing. we dont really their viewpoint on everything. also the thing about destroying a building affecting a nation. the twin tows? similarity?
^yeah there was some gay rights stuff but it fit in with the overall theme. i thought it was a really good movieeverybody should see it if your smart enough to get it. and i used to live in london so it was nice to see some of that in there.
Are you kidding me? It was without a doubt one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The "scary totalitarian right-wing government" was so over-the-top and cliche (like the "voice of London" ranting about Jews and homosexuals) that I couldn't suspend my disbelief for even a moment. I know it's based on a comic-book, but at least the premise should be realistic.
The entire middle of the movie is stupid and makes no sense. Natalie Portman is tortured...why, again? To "set her free?" Sorry, that's just ridiculous. The pointless story of the lesbian actress was another waste of time.
The movie makes a strong suggestion that everything will tie together in the end, with a montage of the previous events. Unfortunately, absolutely nothing ties together. If you've seen the previews, you've already seen Parliament blow up, so you already know the ending. There is no twist, it isn't even clever how he blows it up.
In fact, the only thing that kept me awake through this shitty movie was the hope that I would get to see his face. Never happened.
The Wachowskis are the anti-Christ of movies. If you loved the Matrix sequels, then see this movie. But if you actually have taste in movies, do not even watch V for Vendetta when it comes out on TV five years from now.
Exactly, I was too tired to spell out why I didn't like the movie but the whole "bad goverment" thing was too over the top. I also found it funny how there was an emphasis on the goverment going after homosexuals, as Larry Wachowski turns into a freak slave homosexual. Anyway, it was ok but as I said earlier, I felt it wasn't anything new and definately not as good as people are proclaiming it to be.
i liked it a lot, but because it was entertaining, not because it sparked a need for social change in my mind. a movie doesnt have to be super thought provoking or wicked controversial for me to like, it just has to keep me entertained for the running time. as for comparisons to 1984, any movie with totaltarian overtones will be compared to 1984, but it wasnt really at all like the book other then that. and yes, natalie portman is smoking hot. there is a part where she rolls over in a long t shirt or nightie or some shit that i cant wait to pause over and over again on the dvd. jackpot.
It wasn't really based on Guy Fawkes. That was teh initial premise, but I'm pretty sure Guy Fawkes wasn't horribly burnt in a fire or threw knives at peolpe. I wouldn't say based
Curfews? Media spin on things? Color coded terror levels to scare people? Censorship? Laws against gays?
Seems similar to me. And that's just a few examples. I'm not saying that the movie and the US Government are exactly the same, but there are similarities. If you don't feel that your freedoms and liberties are being slowly taken for "security" purposes, then you live a bubble.
The creator of the book actually published a statement that reads to the effect of "I am in no way associated with nor is my original work associated with anything having to do with this film."
He's so disgusted with it, he won't even take the fucking money they're throwing at him for the movie. Now that is saying something
i thought it was pretty neat... kinda wished they tied everything together some how - i felt pretty empty at the end with no real satisfaction - although the end was pretty gnar.
