Just curious as to why people here hate Salomon. Have you had any personal experience that causes you to dislike their products or do you just hate them because they're a large ski-company and not a "core" manufacturer. I personally have ridden two models. I have ridden X-screams and was not impressed as the edges seemed very delicate. However, I've ridden a pair of Pocket Rockets for the last two seasons and they're awesome. Light, reasonable durable and good for almost anything. If you hate a company for a good reason that's reasonable otherwise it seems dumb imho.
Personally i think its innovative that they use foam...... face it guys it makes them unique from all the other twin tips that are exactly the same.......ive ridden 4frnts, armada's, line etc but my #1 fav will always be salomon ... there so light and if you get the right model they hold up fine on everything (foils)....... i also like the idea of foam because it makes me feel liek some lumberjack didnt just go aimlessly cut down a tree and slap some graphic's on a board....
I don't understand the problem with foam. I've ridden wooden core skis all my life before I got a pair of pocket rockets and I think wood core skis can be just as delicate. I've gotten plenty of core shots on wood skis before. A rock will rip through wood as easily as it will through foam. Foam is also lighter. If you're an aggressive skiier wooden skis will break down roughly as fast as foam skis. Lastly, major damage, such as an edge ripping out, is just as likely to occur with a wood core ski as with a foam core ski. Then again, I say this as a Big Mountain skier, I don't spend as much time in the park as a lot of people on here so maybe others have a different perspectivce.
i have to say... who cares???? you guys can express what you like, but if you dont like it dont freak out at ppl who do. ive recieved some hate messages for an earlier salomon posts. just go skiing, and enjoy yourself, dont ruin it for me. now if you'll excuse me, i have to go pack to go to whistler, but oh no, my skis are salomon! i guess i cant!!!
I weigh 175 and ride really really hard in the back country and I don't have a problem. Sometimes I prefer my stiffer skis, the Seth Pistols. But most of the time I end up riding my Rockets. There are pro skiiers out there who can ski better than anyone here who ski Pocket Rocketss/guns. So don't tell me it's not possible for aggressive skiing on foam core skis.
Salomons are noodly ass pieces of shit for charging hard. On the other hand they're awesome for less agessive skiers. But for you to say pistols are stiff just shows you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. I originally was just going to not comment as this is debated over every other month, but this comment is just outrageous. From the first sentence I could tell this was going to be a comedic post.
I'm sure you're much more hardcore than Seth Morrison, Mark Abma and Mike Douglas who all charge hard on the skis you mentioned. Obviously the skis that are good enough for them aren't good enough for you. Which videos are you in again so i can check it out. I realize that neither the Pistols or the Rockets are the stiffest skis out there, but that doesn't preclude you from going hard on them. If you're ever skiing up in Canada look me up and we'll see if my noodly ass piece of shit skis can keep up..
Do you think douglas, abma, or seth ski on the skis available to the public? If so, I'll let you think PRs are the best ski out there. In reality what the pros ski and what the consumers ski is 2 totally different skis. THey need superstiff skis for the stability. Until you have skied some real big mtn skis dont talk. Not to say you can go hard on the Pistols because you can. There are just much better skis than them. Oh yeah bro, go ski PRs in some nasty crud, then ski some Legend Pros in some nasty crud. Then get back to me.
On the K2 forum Seth has insisted time and again that the skis he ride are the same as the ones available to the public. I guess I really have no way to tell that this is true other than that if it was found that he did not ride stock skis it could seriously damage his/his skis reputation for telling everyone otherwise for so long. I'll admit that I definitely have not tried every pair of big mountain skis out there. I've ridden a few others though such as the AK Rocket, the Head Mad Trix Mojo and Rossignol B3 (last years). I found them all to be nice skis. I guess I'm not going heli skiing all the time so in that respect I guess I'm not skiing the "real big mountains" but I ski Alberta and the interior of BC and do quite a bit of back country so it's not like I'm riding in Ontario and trying to tell you this. I appreciate that you're not name calling or anything and I'm not trying to convince anyone that the Rockets are the hottest big mtn ski avail because I know they're not. All I'm saying is that they're good skis and most people can do most things on them in any given day. It all goes back to why or why not people hate salomon.
I dont even think thats seth on the k2 board personally. I think he insists that for marketing reasons. Most kids say hey seth skis it thats awesome i want a pair. As far as pocket rockets go. They're a great pow/soft snow ski. However once it gets hard and cruddy they suck.r. I dont hate salomon. I reccommend them to my dad because it would just suite the way he skis, but he ended up with B3s(04/05). As far as why other people hate salomon is because this site is full of immature teenagers who believe everything they hear. One person says foam cores suck and arent durable and its like a bandwagon. Just let it be. You like PRs, I like Titan Nines, they like their Liberties and Ninthwards.
Yeah PR aren't great in the cruddy snow. Good skiing by the way, watched some of your vids and they're pretty nice. I've got a set of Made'ns coming so we'll see how well those work.
maybe he means that a lot of people ski them even though they dont legitimately ski park or pipe or even in conditions where they would need mid fat skis.
i have a friend who works in a tuning shop on a mountain, and when hugo harrison was in town, this guy had harrison's skis in the shop- they resembled a squad b4.. but there were subtle differences from what the public can purchase.
so whats to stop seth or anyone else having slightly mod'd skis for charging..
Salomons arent necessarily "bad", they are good for some pow, and lighter people. but thats about it. and who cares who makes the ski, so long as its good and works.
Hahaha this is hilarious...you say salomon sucks...but this "cool" company you mention...armada was it? has a co-founder that helped create the 1080! irony...
i'm 195+ and still love my 185 PRs. so easy to ski - they'll do anything you want. the "blue noodles" get alot of crap for being soft; but, i charge hard at the bird on them with no probs - straight lines and big bowls. plus it is a super light ski with a great spin weight - great for grizzly gulch and so easy to spin on. true, i have been on stiffer hard core skis but the PR is by far the funnest ski all around i've ever riden - my opinion. i love solly and also love other companies as well.
The reason i dont like mine is because they fell apart today the topsheet totally came off from the base It sucked. and i did nothing wrong for this to happen.
dude...I've skied for 20 years...for sure I've skied on wood cores. I'm not saying at all that I dislike them I'm just saying that I have not found any of the major disadvantages with foam that some people on this site claim. Plus they have some pluses, ie://they're lighter for jumping and hiking.
Ya salomon is the bomb. I have their 1080s and havnt had a problem with em... just the bindings (marker shietboxes) although i got the new bindings now and they are awsome.
