Braking the brakes

Well I have broken my brake tons of times and I am sick of it. Whenever I land switch or ski switch. some times I catch a brake and it bends forward. That was my old pair. I would just bend it back and go back to jibbing. Well I got so fed up with this that I ripped the brakes off and tied a rope to the binding. I would then tie the rope around my leg and be off. It was nice, whenever I crashed I wouldnt have to hike up and get my ski. Well I saved up and bought a pair off invaders with scratch 120 bindings. The invaders didn't work out so good so I switched bindings. The scratch bindings on my old skis(trouble-makers) and my invaders in a box. This worked out fine until today. I was landing switch pretty much all day. Then when I landed switch off one jump I was ski off when I caught an edge one ski ripped off and I caught myself. I stopped, my brother came down with my ski. I put it on and when I looked down I saw my other ski had one brake backwards and one forwards. So I skied down the hill with one ski on and tryed to fix it myself. I ended up unhooking it and letting it hang loosely but I tucked it so it wouldn't bother me. But all this got me thinking, Why don't they make bindings that are safe to ride switch and land switch with no problem. I mean why can't they bend them so they can't hit. Or should we go to the rope thing but make it look good and not noticeable. So please binding companys do this so I won't have to bend or go to the shop to fix it so that I can brake them again.

i've had no problems with mine (salomon s810 and look p12), and i land and carve switch all the time.

someone needs to make a brak that doesnt come out like the original ones like that are on a swivel so that the dont bend and it doesnt matter which way you are skiing switch or regular

the springs is key.

they'd have to develop a brake system that's double spring loaded so it can flex both ways... I'm guessing that it's really hard (if not impossible) to do.

I mean, you push the thing down and forward and the breaks go up and back right, how could you have something go forward if you're pushing forward from above? I hate ski bindings, snowboard bindings are so much more user friendly.

i have the same problem basically im down to one ski only haveing one brake and the other haveing one brake that dangles off to te side and doesnt do anything to stop the ski, pretty much id been bending it back up so much that eventually the brakes just snapped off. definitely need a new system or something to fix this

so mount it in the middle between the toe piece and the heel piece and have it spring loaded both ways and have it .... damn this is hard

but im sure if some ski company thought about it they could come up with something

I had a problem with that too. I had Markers. I got the Look p12 they work great! they pop off only if i eat my shit bad, but i would try the look p12. IF they keep breaking take them to the shop you bought them at and ask them to fix them or give you new bindings that work. When that happened to me they gave me the Look p12.

That seems logical. I think the money is in the brake busness. Make a binding for the increaseing freeride seen and they will love you. And pay you.

ya i know what you mean i just have it now cause i broke my binding....the brake if it falls off and lands straight up and down its goin down the hill cause it happened so many times and now its broke and the guys said i need to get new bindings

ive broken my brake complety off 4 times this season landing switch. when the skis flex's the plastic plate that holds them in shatters.

All the rossi/look bindings seem to be having that problem. It might be better with the 14s though.

every single binding will do this. If you're going switch and pop out for whatever reason the brakes will deploy and yanked on in the opposite direction that they are designed to go. Sometimes they just bend, and sometimes you can rip the brake clean off.

Ive always had trouble with binding bending when i pop out switch. With my rossi scratch 14s they would bend and break like little bitches. Then i bought fsk155s and the breaks are enclosed in a metal cage pretty much, and they just bend now and i have to bend them back, which isnt too bad, but they need to invent some new bindings...

Ahhh, I see. I could never figure out why that kept happening. I'd be skiing along and bam! a brakes dragging in the snow.

I have both and have broken the salomon s810 bindings. I got the p12s this year i broke the breaks off and couldnt replace them since the bottom plate was bent. They sent me a new pair if the px12 lifters. Theyve been having the brake problem on all the look/rossignol bindings.

its fucking annoying last time I ripped out my platewith it now i cant have a break at all.

Imjust gunna attach a snowbaord strap to it.

i dont see why they dont just make the arms out of something other than metal that can flex. like make it out of rubber, or like a spring so that it will flex while there is still pressure from your foot on it, but when you are out of the binding and the mechanism pushes it out it will still grab the snow and stop it. all they need is a flexible brake arm and they will be golden.

yeah, I had used a leash to my ski when my bindings were broke and couldn't get any brakes in there.. Seemed like a good idea. Until I crashed and had the ski whip back and smack me in the face.

I have the sample problem where I break my brakes almost weakly. One thing that will really do it is if you are having alot of hard landings (over-shooting jumps for example).

unfortunately I overshoot jumps like nobody's business, and my body isn't liking it much either anymore.

well the leash is ppotentially painful. But i really cant afford new bindings. And they seem to not like you not have brakes at the ski hill not to mention a pain in the ass having to chase a ski.

i got scratch 120's and ive never had brake troubles. the only thing that bothers me is that sliding plate on the toepiece. i think im gonna switch to some of the fks bindings. ive got a pair in my garage, but i tried to bend the brake and the same thing happened and one part is dangling. i mite hacksaw the one brake giving me troubles and leave the other half on so ill still have a brake

I've bent my brakes up way too many times. The brakes got ripped out of one of my skis and I use that leash idea. They haven't hit me in the face yet.

Watch out with that lease idea my dad mangled his leg and which ultimately ended his skiing back in the day. Although he always kept his skis super sharp, but one spill is all it took to cut through his pants and deep into his thigh...its a great story, my favorite part is when they cut open his pants and part of his thigh flopped open (I think it progressively gets worse each time its told too) but he got a wicked scar out of it!

all bindings do it 'cause they all (relativly) have the same breaking system.

I've (i'm sure like almost everyone here) has been breakless (or practicly so) for a number of years... I think the longest record I''ve had of working breaks was like 3 weeks. Nah, probably less.

I've been skiing for a year and a half with no break at all on my right ski... I always get shit'ed on by the park tech's though. This park tech at Whistler last year got hit in the leg by a runaway ski.

To the person who started the thread.........

You said there should be a way to make them look good and not be noticeable, right? Then what is the point of makin it look good if you cannot even see it?
