how many people here hike or snowshoe to ski down after? what kinds of stuff do you bring with you in your packs. i wont be hiking anything i'll need avalanche gear for (yet). remember, i'm from NH, so i won't be climbing huge exposed peaks

snowshoeing sucks b/c most don't fit over ski boots you you need an extra pair of boots, i sugjest getting some skins and at bindings.

you wont need anything too hardcore, if youre in nh you will probably only need some agua and a few doobs, and maybe a backpack that can hold your loot

i hike a lot in utah. i usually tele when i'm gonna hike tho, so i just take skins and camelback...altitude can be a bitch

actually my friend and i hiked in our ski boots in waste deep pow forever at blue hills today to ski some nice pow runs. and after like an hour of tretorous hiking we didnt even have a good run... i wanted to die... but after the photographer there got a pic of me doing a 360 indy of the table there so that was cool


skiing is just like sex... when its good, its gooooood. and when its not so good, its still pretty good

i did a backbacking trip this summer up to a snow field this summer with my alpine shit, 60 pound packs. It blew shit for balls hiking for a day, but the snow was good. I'm bringing my tele shit next time thats for damn sure, much lighter

trekkers clip into your bindings, they allow you to free-heel it up on your alpine gear... skins are for climbing, they go on the bottom of your skis.

Heres my 2 cents: If you ever plan on hiking, don't smoke so much weed every day that you obtain the lung capacity of a 3 year old girl. It makes hiking wicked hard cause you always have to stop to cough up a lung.

skins and trekkers are a necessity for most ski touring and 'hiking' for turns. skins run about 100 bucks a pair, kind of pricy, but worth the money. get a good pair too, you'll hate yourself if you get a shitty pair and it doesnt work out as you planned. and yes, water is necessary. also, have a good pack with you, not some cheap north face day pack, but an actual backpacking pack or a climbing pack of sorts- something that will be somewhat resistant to water and will keep your things dry. i suggest Dana Design, they make outstanding packs, and they fit the best of any pack i've ever used..good luck!

i have a pair of touring bindings, and a set of skins, in the beggining it pissed me off to walk to ski a line, but now i'm really starting to like it its really nice, its giving me access to stuff that would only be accessible by chopper. be carefull though, if you are heading out in the back country, get some avy knowledge, pick up a book or ride with someone that knows his shit. get a pieps, learn how to use it etc.. etc...
