i might be going there over break and wanted to know what you guys thought was the best place to stay n ski, im not entirely sure if im going but i thought id ask anyway, so yeah what mtns are better then others, im guessin they are all about the same but theres gotta be somethin diff at all of them, also where to stay and all that good stuff
it just depends on how much time you have. if you're on the north shore, do alpine. if you're on the south shore, do sierra and kirkwood. that about sums it up and anyone else adding other resorts is full o' pooples. as far as price goes, south and north are about the same (more cheap hotel selection on south shore).
Stay in south shore at harris or harveys.
kirkwood for cliffs and steeps. Same for Alpine but they also have a sick park. Heavenly has a sick park as well as Sierra At Tahoe, stay away from Northstar.
Northstar has the best park in Tahoe. Sierrra is a close second since it's designed by the same guy. Heavely and Squaw also both have great parks. If you want to ski big mountain and stay away from jerks go to Alpine or the Wood, stay away from Squaw. Everyone there has so much attitude if you aren't a local.
you know, the snow is so fucking good and deep right now, that you shouldn't be considering which mtn has the best park. go for the mtn w/ best terrain. read above for which ones.
was it still on his list of places to go?yes.
is it in lake tahoe?no.
did I ever say it was in tahoe?no.
is he willing to drive there?maybe.
we are just giving him options. chill out.no need to call someone a fucking moron, especially when i didnt even say mammoth was in tahoe.
The thread is titled lake tahoe, I believe you have led him to the unfortunate fact that mommoth is an option when he asked about tahoe resorts when it isnt , unless you want to drive 3 hours. Im sure okemo is sick to , its only a 56 hour drive you should recomend that one to. And your from New York , when someone asks a question about your stupid ski resorts jump on it please, but getting resort info from somone who lives 3500 miles from it isnt a great idea.
please find my post where i lead him to belive mammoth was in tahoe. please, please do that. once again you accuse me of something i havent done. again, when did i say mammoth was so close to tahoe?wait, i didnt. one more time. lets see if we can keep that up.maybe i live much further from tahoe than you, but so far, i have been of more help to him. i'm done with you. maybe you should leave it alone too, or just keep at it.
i ski squaw and anyone on this thread who doesn't admit that squaw doesn't have the best terrain in tahoe is a retard. it is the biggest mountain with hands down the best terrain in all of tahoe. the park is also good. and alpine is way overratted. it just kinda has a depressing feel and you have to hike to lots of the backcountry.
think its oppisite but its just my opinion, an squaw gets tracked pretty quickly. back up a ways when you say mammoth in a thread about tahoe it kinda gives you the idea . thats all i was saying.
ya its like 4 hours away. and definatly go to squaw or alpine. and just find some cheap hotel to stay at in trukee cuz then your 10 minutes away from squaw and 15 from alpine. and 20 minutes from great backountry (donner area)
That depression thing is because its dark rocky and scary .. especially in shitty weather. And the sun doesnt hit it all untill about 11:30 so there is darkeness in the morning's and afternoons.
alpine is home base, best mountain ive ever skied at if you factor in terrain, park, lines, vibe, etc.......
i went to squaw for the first time on wednesday, got there at 7 am and waited two hours in line to get fifth chair on KT. From there it was a mad dash and battle to get to headwall and silverado.
I was with a local legend and it was cool to see JT Holmes a chair ahead of us and Mcconkey and Mcgovern behind us. Needless to say I got the tour, and I got to hike the peak after my buddy busted his shit on a 40 fter.
The tracks were gone fast but I was amazed, it was steep, deep, and Squaw is HUGE compared to alpine.
Again, Alpine is my home, but squaw is going to be visited on dump days for sure.
^there are a lot of people who are in denial of squaw's massive enormity...let's just say this, there is a reason that the above mentioned skiers call it there home and then go to AK, BC, Alps, etc. and throw down the gauntlet. You better bring your A game to Squaw. But people are pricks there too.
