personnaly I couldn't ski without my poles but it's ok to do if you wanted to isn't it named FREEstyle? but I prefer way more the andy style than his I think that his arm aren't just right in the pic, they need to be closer or it looks just ugly.

i'm all for being an individual and doing stuff that other people aren't doing but personally i don't like it (i would rather shoot myself then wear an airblaster and to ski without poles would be crazy i feel way weird with out them) but if you do then more props to you...
