I SHATTERED my left clavical on friday

I was skiing at Keystone friday-

-dust on crust
-extreme flat light
-little icy

I was hauling ass and I was cut off by two tourists one some run between north peak and outback. I was forced to go hard left into what looked like it could be soft snow. It was huge bumps. After maybe 100 feet I double ejected and went airborn. I was in the air for a very long time. I came down directly onto the top of my left shoulder (feet above head) which snapped my left clavical and then I tumbled over and over for a few hundred more feet, breaking it several more times. I came to a stop and was up walking around for a minute, i was going to try to ski or walk down but then I collapsed to my knees and started to feel the pain. Luckily I was with a girl I've been dating and she was there for me for the 15 minute wait for ski patrol and the 45 minute tobogan/snowmobile ride and then in the hosbital. She also took care of me at her place for a few days. 2 doctors have said surgery is a must, but today I went to another specialist and she said no. 1 more opinion tomorrow and I will know for sure. I'm all kinds of fucked up right now on vicadin and valium.

i broke mine in the same spot, 3 times. thankfully, it wasn't too bad.. but it's definately not fun. first i had two hairline fractures, which because a split, which became a more severe split and displacement. i shoulda been healed up weeks ago, but thanks to getting drunk, falling over fenses, and having races down paved roads, i'm still wearing a dumbass backpack-style sling and having a rough time doin anything, really

^at least you don't have every single one of your friends giving you shit about the "bra" you have to wear. assholes. when i broke mine in high school i got made fun of so much that i just stopped wearing it.

i broke mine last season, it looked a lot like yours and two doctors said no surgery and another said surgery would be a good idea. I didn't get surgery and still a year later it hurts. If you like to go back packing i'd definitely get surgery.

Damn thats some crazy shit, at least you can ski in 4 weeks. and is the clavical a common break? cause theres been like 50 people saying theyve broken theres

Yeah but again, 4 weeks from now, which is 10 weeks post accident (this is an old thread incase you guys haven't noticed). Thats about 20-30 days out of my season because I was skiing 2-3 days a week.

And yeah, clavicles are a pretty common break.
