Well I havn't done much touring, and im not sure how much im gonna be doing, so i dont want to get the whole set up, id prefer to have something cheaper and that.
yea they are great for hiking, i just got back from hiking up mountains, bootpack style, and most of the group had trekkers and skins, they help tons. both are on the top of my list for things to have next year.
the bottom part snaps into your binding, and the top attaches to your boot, making the binding work like a crosscountry binding, just being attached at the toe
I have a set and they've worked pretty well so far. They flex a bit if you're hard on them on switchbacks, but other than that they've been great. If you're really going to get into backcountry skiing I'd recommend just getting a set of Fritchi's on ebay right now, they're selling for $200-250 right now.
Those are soooooo expensive though! Definitely worth the money if you have it, but $450+ for bindings is a bit too much for me. Maybe in a couple years if I'm hearing good things about them I'll pick up a set, but for now I think Fritchis are pretty nice.
^^^I use the Naxo's ona a pair of 189 seth v's and they do just fine goind downhill....in fact they have the same retention or better than your bindings. My naxo's test at a true 14din - how much retention do you really need superman?
because they have the market on lock, they must have a patent or something. I love my trekkers. The setup is obviously heavier than a true At setup but I've taken them on mountaineering trips and been fine, I wouldn't have it any other way. I've used mine a million times without a single problem. It puts you really high off your binding when when you are skiing up crusty ridges at an angle it is easier to pop the trekkers out of the alpine binding, just be ginger on them and it's all gravy baby
