This is the first year i have ever skied at an area with a pipe, and i really like it but i kinda suck. My main porblems are spining without poping, pumping the walls, and knowing what angle to come off at. When i try to spin i always end up at in the middle of the pipe. I know your supposed to pump the walls but i have no idea how to do it. if i go like 3 or 4 feet above the top of the wall how far in distance should i go? Any sugestions? Thanks
when you are about 2 feet from the bottom of the tranny (where it begins to curve) bend your knees quite a bit, and once you are almost vert, unflex them and begin the popping technique. it takes lots of practice to get it dialed, but try it with more and more speed.
pump trannys - that means as you go down the wall, you pump while you are in the transition (curved part) of the pipe. if you do it right, you can almost feel yourself boost in acceleration. it takes practice to get. also, keep strong in the legs. i see many people absorb all their speed going up a wall because their legs are acting like suspension on a car.
work on going larger, with more speed, and getting more comfortable with air.
with angles, it depends on so much. the further down the pipe you go, the faster you will be going, but itll sacrafice height (depending on ability) so it depends on what you want. traveling a fair distance down the pipe while still boosting helps ensure speed for hits lower down. once again, it takes time to figure out.
spinning is different for everybody. work on timing the pop. if you land too far in the pipe, ease the amount of pop, and visa versa. however, pop is not always determines where you land on the wall (or deck)
I would consider riding pipe for a whole season and just work on getting the tranny figured out, riding the entire wall, getting your angles right and going bigger. Most people huck themselves in pipe and it looks like shit. Get so you can ride really smoothly in the pipe consistanlty get 6 foot airs and then worry about spinning. You will figure it all out in doing so. Pipe is something that can look good even if your just doing straight airs, but looks totally beat if you huck. Good luck bro. It's hard but that's why it's so damn fun.

ya, when your coming into the transition, bend down so your looking up and wind up. the spins can only be helped from practice. its probably that your afraid of over/underrotating, that was my problem, but i love pipe now
Thanks everyone, I worked on pumping the walls today, I was in way more control and was going way higher, and I was able to do some small spins (ally-op 180) without landing in the center of the pipe
