Im fine with working and getting exactly what I need to live, if I can help my fellow comrade. Perhaps a dictatorship is not such a bad form of government. Even consider it? Anson, have you STUDIED communism AT ALL? And I don't mean at your little super left wing 'let's build bombs and kill the banks' meetings, but in a scholarly setting, including history and the economics of it? I'm not going to claim that I have in great detail, but I know this much: Communism has NEVER worked out. Sure, it works for a while, but it always ends up blowing up in someone's face. In fact, SU Pilot pointed out a great reason why communism doesn't work: The laziest, slackest, most stupid person ends up getting the same compensation as the guy who does everything.
My suggestion: Look up socialism, and see if that fits what you believe a little better. And then look at how Canada, the US, and Scandinavian countries work socially, and decide where you stand.

Do you actually maintain the naive assumption that elected governments are NOT corrupt? Take Stalin as a prime example of a good communist dictator. He grinded his people to dust, and rebuild a superpower from the ashes. An elected government would have failed miserably after WW2, not to mention DURING WW2.

An interesting effect of the tolitarian communist sentiment is that countries are to poor to help those in need. What to make the world a better place? Get really really rich and donate it to charity fool. The problem with capitalism is not a system that allows anybody to chase wealth, its what people end up doing with it; using it to get, solely to fulfill their goal of being rich. If there are people who need help that you know, help them you moron. Don't philosiphize on political platforms that have only caused pain and suffering* in the world. While you research the history of Communism, you should also research why people feel it is a valid sollution to the problems. Not only would you learn about Communism by understanding its fathers and supporters, but you'll also understand you're own modivations for your discontent.

I think that the whole thing with Iraq is unnecessay. If we don't start shit with them, what do we have to worry about if they have nukes or not. I don't know why the U.S. thinks that they rule the world. We're no better than anyone else, in fact, I think we're getting to be one of the worse countries. All of this power trip bullshat needs to stop. The president needs to just worry about our own shit and stop with the idea that they can tell everyone on earth what to do. They don't have that much power and they're just going to make things worse thinking that way. I'm sick of this shit, I'm moving to CANADA where they know how to run the show.

OK, here's the thing. Communism doesn't work, yeah sure. But I'M going to maintain my opinion that it COULD work. The past communist governments have been mere imitations how how a communist society should be run. Try to keep your biasses capitalist opinions to yourself. Communism is a state of mind, as is capitalism. If you let the survival of the fittest mentality dominate your thinking, you will close your mind to anything else. Communism is meant to be instituted gradually, so that it actually DOES work. Past communist experiences are nothing of what communism is meant to be. In the mean time, I'd like to point out that Cuba has the best health care system on the planet, and America has one of the worst (of the developed nations).

And Canada and Scandinavian countries seem to have it more figured out than any other capitalist/semi socialist countries, when it comes to health care and other social issues, and they're not communist at all, so your healthcare example is lacking.
As for communism, it's too radical and idealistic to work in today's world. The concept itself is flawed, because it doesn't reward the real effort put into the system by the slaves, uh, I mean comrades, uh no, I mean citizens. It has it's good points, but seriously dude, you need a couple of lessons in economics, history, and politics before you start claiming that communism is the solution to everything. And I thought this thread was about war, the reasons for/against it, and why there is so much hate in the world, particularly directed at the 'west'...

There is so much hate directed at the west because the US has driven and chained practially the entire world into poverty. Because the west doesn't listen to reason, and we are bullies. Hello everyone, I'm the new and improved Anson. I enjoy buying things, and fighting people. I do poorly in school, and I don't know what the word 'sarcastic' means. I am in favour of utterly destroying Iraq, because I don't where it is. For that matter, where is Canada? Or France? I like to shoot things, and I keep a loaded gun my pocket at all times. I am a CEO of a multinational corporation which preys upont he weak, and exploits children in developing countries. I hate everybody who looks like Osama Bin Laden because he is a bad man. The prez-ey-dent told me so. I feel safe making up words, because the prez-ey-dent does that too! I support the Bush administration because he likes to shoot things too. Saddam is Sa' Damn Insane, he's got them weapons of mass destruction over there is that country of his. We should go kill him before he kills us. communism could work for a certain period of time, just as democracy has proven to be effective for a certain period of time. but this matter of being temporary has to be taken into account: up to our present point in history, there hasn't been one socio-economic system that has proved itself timeless.
given different worldly circumstances, i believe it is possible for communism to be implemented and eventually prove itself successful, BUT, with our modern access to any piece of information, which in turn affords us the ability to gain knowledge regarding any subject almost immediately, it seems as if there is no rational circumstance in which a person would be willing to more or less donate their existence for the good of the whole, while superior riches are available in the next community. (of course i realize that freedom to information does not exist in places like china and n korea. i'm talking about free nations converting to socialist structures.) unfortunately, it once again goes back to the never-ending struggle for the almighty currency of choice.
in this respect, it seems as if canada has things figured out pretty well, given our social-democratic system. perhaps this explains our inability to dedicate ourselves to a unilaterally lead war.. we don't want to become just another piece in the western 'axis of evil'. (how's that for spinning some political rhetoric??)
it's still possible to wish and hope, is it not? i'm counting on stumpling into a post-mortal utopia one day..... until then -> acceptance, understanding, and harmony are my virtues.
