I don't think you guys get what he's saying. He isn't talking about the footbed that goes inside the liner he's talking about the boot board between the bottom of the liner and the shell. I'm a pretty techie boot fitter and I've never really experimented with subtitutin in a softer material in place of the boot board. It deals with issues of canting posting etc but it would be a worthwhile endeavor. I've ground on boot boards a bunch to increase volume/height in boots but what you're talking about is very intriguing. Play with it to see what height you want and see how it works. You might need to stack them a little higher if it's gel or foam because you don't want too much compression on impacts or it will loosen your boot right when you need it to be tight. A lot of boots out have full length rubber boot boards now too btw. Have fun and report back to us bro.

I've heard of people using different materials to accomplish the same effect as the 1080 bootboard.
My advice would be to shave down the bottom of the bootboard (you might have to shave the sides a little as well), then use something on top of the now thinner bootboard to give you some cush.
Or get your shop to call salomon and see if they can't order you a set of soft bootboards. It'll cost you, but if it can be done, it'll be a lot easier. Just drop them in and go.

Yes, it could be done. Go to a good bootfitter and ask them to put some instaprint foam on there. This is 2mm thick foam (or 1mm if you seperate the layers) that is used for padding liners and that I have used to cover an entire bootboard to raise people's feet to reduce volume in the boot like someone above said. This might reduce it too much though and cramp your foot, so grinding down the bootboard first by 2mm might be necessary. This would cost you m,aybe $30-40. Or go to a Salomon dealer and just ask them to order some of the shock absorbing bootboards for your X-Wave 8's - I did this for my old X-Wave 9's - they're the same fit.
Really though, the shock absorbing bootboard doesn't do a whole lot. A custom footbed would give you more shock absorbsion by keeping the fat pad under your heel from flattening out. I skied my old boots with stock insoles and used to get a lot of pain in my heel landing switch, even on pretty small jumps once I got the shock absorbing bootboards. With my new Lange 120 FR's (which are a lot betetr overall fit anyway), I lowered the heel of my bootboard which resulted in the shock absorbing pad being removed, but I still have no heel pain because of my custom footbeds.
