Whistler - overrated? read.

I've heard some of people say Whistler is majorly overrated and doesn't live up to the hype. I'm going out west all next winter and I'm trying to decide to go Whistler or an interior resort like Kicking Horse or Louise. Also what would be the best interior resort? Is Panorama any good.

Don't you think there's a reason why time and time again it receives the title of being the best ski resort out there?
if it sucked then the pros wouldn't stay around.
It is a sick place, and one of the coolest things about Whistler is the town and night life.

Well I guess you could say that Whistler can't help but be overrated because of all the hype it recieves. I worked out there last year and it was awesome. What you get with Whistler is a ton of terrain, lots and lots of people to ski/party with (fellow staff and tourists galore), a town with everything you need and lots more. BUT, you have to realize that its SUPER busy most of the time and because of that, most of the snow gets tracked out pretty fast. I had a great time because I went to ski AND meet people/party. If your main purpose is to ski, I'd say a place like Kicking Horse or Fernie may be better. I guess it depends on what you're looking for.

Is Whistler really busy even like your average Tuesday in February, or is it mostly crazy at like Christmas break, Spring break, weekends, etc.

Whistler is definitely NOT over rated...and it is busy, but dont expect it to be too bad on a day like you described...of course holiday seasons are gonna be busy, and spring break is as well, but i'd say that whistler is the perfect alpine town...the party scene is insane, the skiing is insane, and the people you'll meet there are great- go to whistler, you wont regret it.

lake louise is in quebec? you're joking, right? anyways, louise (in alberta) and kicking horse (bc) rule, that is if they get snow. but at whistler you're probably not gonna be let down in that department. and banff, golden, and especially lake louise's night life party scence blow compared to whistler's. banff's is good, but whistler's is crazy. go to whistler if you have the money.
p.s.- you'll be bored of panorama after a weekened.

Ya, but I've heard a bunch of good skiers say they dont like whistler. That it rains all the time in the village and the weather generally sucks and that it's really busy. So I just wanted to see what ya'll opinions on it are. I've heard of people who work at whistler who drive to interior resorts to ski on their days off, sounds ridiculous to me.

I made the move to BC from onterrible this year. I've heard crap like 'whistler is overrated' too many times. It's shit. Whistler kicks ass. The terrain is sick, the nightlife is awesome, and there's an actual town around it, which is nice. Yes, it's expensive, yes, it can be busy during holidays/special events, but you'll have a kickass time out there. You won't be disappointed if you move to Whistler.

fernie is sweet, terrain just as good as any of the places you mentioned and usually a lot more and better snow. The town is a nice laid back atmosphere..not as chaotic as whistler or lake louise/banff.

best ski hill EVER, the only thing is you need time, I was there for 9 days and barely scratched the good stuff, go with lots of time to waste or it will be a waste of money

ive been to whistler 5 times and each time ive been there ive was there for a week to a week and a half. everytime i go there it gets hammered with snow towards the brginning of the week, and then just eases up towards the end making the trip kick ass. besides, blackcombs parks and pipes are bad ass.

move there, you won't regret it. Just don't get injured and be out for the season before hte snow even comes, (haha) Like a million people said before, it's only busy when there's special events (like black week, gay week, mexican week...) and even then you can find tons of places that people don't know about. It can be expensive but start looking really early in the year for accom and you'll be fine. Have fun!
