Boulder has wayyyy better women, partying, ganj, and park. MSU bozeman has probably better backcountry, less crowds, and closer ski hills(30 mins -1 hr), they have more expensive passes and less hills, worse park. Go to whichever school has your better major probably would be the best choice though...
as far as i know boulder doesn't have anything closer than 1 hour. Big sky is about that but it is sick as hell, bridger is like 20 minutes and also great fun.
aldora is pretty close, about half an hour, but it is pretty worthless. winter park i think is abotu an hour to an hour 20, and a basin, keystone, breck, and vail are probably bout an hour and a half to two hours there, and it can get way worse on the way home i think.
Kinda conservative but also alot of hippies. Cops are rediculous and the party scene isnt great. The girls are also not NEARLY as quality as boulder. If you want partying then go to boulder cause it is 200 percent better than bozeman but bozeman is closer to everything you want to do. Park isnt as good though but lines are also small. Its all in what proportions you want. I would check out utah schools too.
utah schools are mostly commuter campuses, so if you're going to know people to live together with then it'd be tight, cops are rediculous around msu, come here, practically guarenteed you will get a mip if you party, skiing is sick and everyone is into it.
There aren't that many hippies in Bozeman. I would say that the people are more "granola". Missoula has a lot of hippies. And the Cops are that bad. Sure parties get busted from time to time but that happens everywhere. And its not like the cops bust a party and write everyone there MIP's.
The granola thing is true but I got an mip at a party of 17 or so where everybody got at least an mip. They kick people out of parties all the time with nothing but they also give out tons of mips with rediculous consequences, 400 plus dollars and 20 hrs community service with some other shit.
im a freshman here at msu. The cops arent that bad, the lack of women can be frustrating, the party scene is good. Skiing is amazing. Bridger is 16 miles away big sky and moonlight are 45 minutes away. As far as "granolas" and or "hippies" go, they are nothing compared to the Trustafaris at UVM. the hippies here arent really hippies there more just ski bums. What i mean is they dont stink like patchroly and have dreads. I know kids that go to CU and its like 2 1-2 hours from skiing.
msu is your better bet
The dorms are fucken huge, so there are mad people with cars. Plus if all else fails you can just hich up to bridger, after all its oonly 15 miles away
duncan is in my english class, one time when i was really drunk he had to come pick me up after the cops told me to find a ride home, and it was a pretty awkward moment, anyways, he's pretty chill but he doesn't drink. bridger closes the 4th, big sky will be open until th 17th though.
It is a well rounded option, but if you want to do it then you almost have to get your EMT certification. Any big snow scientist in the biz working for a large resort started on patrol someplace, and the Bridger patrol is very highly regarded.
They offer an EMT course here, you kind have to dig deep to find it but it's here so at least you don't have to go some where else for that part, also if you get your EMT requirements, you can get a job doing ambulance stuff in the summer, or anything like that.
No girls, Engineering department is in the crapper because of egotistical tenored professers that need to pull their heads out of their asses and teach, the skiing is ... okay, sure there's alot of good backcountry, but good luck finding time to actually get out there (I don't know anyone that actuall skis backcountry, closest thing is when some buddies and I hike pre and post season to build a kicker), did I mention the horrendous female to male ratio, oh and Bozeman is retardedly small, there are no 18+ clubs at all, so if your under 21 enjoy sitting at home on a weekend trying to get people to come over and play beer pong (the ONLY under 21 activity on fri and sat nights) if you did decide to come here ... I'm sorry. Personally, I can't wait til I'm in a position where I never have to think about this place again. I'd say go to a good school so you can get a job (MSU's placement rate, at least for engineers is dismal) then spend your money and vacation days to ski some where worthwhile (Bridger Bowl is a dump) maybe even have a good enough education to find a job in a place with good skiing.
Oh and one more thing, I'm pissed of that the site now limits signature lengths, wtf? I remember the days when a guy could have 144 line signature.
I'm not really sure what this guy is talking about. The male/female ratio is 53%. The engineering program is still one of the best at MSU. Also Bridger Bowl is the shit and so is Big Sky. You say find a place with good skiing but in reality there are few places in the U.S. that have better skiing than here. I hope you do leave and go to some place like the east coast so that you can really appreciate living in montana.
And what is wrong with playing beer pong insted of going to a club and wasting money.
That kid is obviously horrible at skiing if you look at his video. There are always at least a couple parties on normal weekends. That kid is just hatin'. Haters are everywhere and they will always be hatin cause they got nothin. whatever ya know. But I know people including myself who build many back country kickers throughout the year into pow. Less people more pow slick go to texas!
The male/female ratio has changed, last stats I saw said about 70% male. The engineering school was ranked at 114 in the US on a study I saw last year. Bridger bowl is small and extremely overpriced as is big sky. Big Sky has one challenging run, Bridger has the ridge, decent moguls though but when you've been bumping for a while and have bad knees to begin with it gets old. I've been sking BB for 10 years. I hate small towns, I'll admit that. I do kinda like that fact that I know a ton of people from college and high school that live here, but at the same time its annoying as hell to run into people you know everywhere you go (mostly people you're not interested in hanging out with). Living off-campus I do find plenty of off-campus parties, almost everyone ends up being four or five drunk people sitting around arguing politics, which is actually pretty enjoyable, I love conversation, but sometimes I want more ... sometimes I want to dance the night away! Maybe its the people I know ... mostly engineering students, or the classes I take ... all in the EPS/Roberts/Cobleigh structure (almost all dudes). Everyone here seems to be so psoitive about the school and I get jumped on for a negative rant, I think that's ridiculous since some of you are probably freshman that are fresh out of their parents homes and have never been in bozeman before. Stay here for a summer too, it retty much sucks, only four of my college friends are staying here, so that means I have to hang out mostly with the jackasses I graduated high school with. So yeah I am biased, I've lived here for 18 of my 20 years, I think you'd all be a little biased too.
70% men don't be dumb dude thats the stupidest shit I have ever heard. If you think BS only has one good run I would like to see it cause I must be skiing all the shitty ones! Maybe you should pick up more outdoor sports which is was Bozeman is all about, how can you be bored in the summer with soooo much shit around. You ignant. I just think you havent lived someplace that is actually shitty, or you are actually really dumb I don't know I don't personally know you.
I'm not a ridge hippie, I actually hate hippies. I don't always ski double blacks, sometimes moguls, sometimes even groomers if I need my speed fix, I ski a little park but there really isn't any around here. I will own you on the dance floor, and I guess you can't back up your skiing so i'll probably own you there too. Its nice to trash talk people's videos when you don't have any of your own stuff posted, very courageous of you. And yeah I'm not into outdoorsy stuff, I mountain bike a little in the summer, and camp a little, but thats about it. BTW I'm from minneapolis ... not much for skiing there, so if that's you opinion of a hitty place to live, redneck ... hillbilly, than so be it.
Dude, fucking leave this state then. There are people everywhere that would LOVE the opportunity to live in this town. That's why all the houses cost so fucking much. I don't think there is anywhere else I would rather live than bozeman. I have lived here for 17 years and plan on going to college here. You know, that really sucks that you aren't into outdoor stuff, because bozeman has some of the best hiking, camping, biking, fishing, rock climbing and kayaking in the fucking nation. Maybe you should go live in Colorado. Im sure the skiing is much more XXXtreme there and the prices will be much lower. Yeah that's the ticket, go live in Aspen. I'm sure you will find that much more affordable. If you can't find skiing at bridger and big sky to push the limits of your abilities, you need to get off the fucking magic carpet and get on a chair lift. People come from all over the world to ski those two mountains. I can't believe you can take a place like this for granted.
Shut up you hater. Go hate somewhere like the whitehouse, we don't need your nay-saying. Ill post some pics in my profile if thats what you want. If you still want to challenge me then I can still whoop your ass whenever when snow starts flyin.
Alright guys, im not trying to hijack this thread or anything, but i think it has gone a bit off topic. I am going to be a freshmen at bozeman next year and i think i am gonna major in earth sciences. im from california and i grew up all my life on mountains like northstar and such. i just want to know a couple things after reading all of the posts. 1. is the girl/guy ratio really that bad 2. is the partying really that bad 3. are the cops really that bad
and i dont want to know the answer from some hater, i want the answer from someone who is neutral and is gonna give me an accruate answer instead of this 70% male bullshit (that is bullshit right?)
1. I really dont think its as bad as some say. Plus if you got game who needs more girls than guys(well unless its 2 guys 1 girl or something but its more like few thousond girls and a few more thousond guys)
2. I think the partying is decent, i guess i wouldnt know for sure about college parties because im still in HS but ive never heard anything bad
3. Not really, its really hyped that they suck, but what cops dont suck?
