Skiing with music ---> Dangerous?

I bought these earphones that fit nicely under the ear peices of my helmet.
I was going to bring them skiing yesterday, but when I told my parents I was going to ski with music, they cringed.
They were saying that the music distracts you and you need to hear whats going on around you to ski safely.
What do you think?

the only time it's gotten me in trouble is when I accidentally cut someone off, and they were yelling at me to move, but I didn't hear them

There was this kid today at breck. One of those super hip snowboarder kids with the ear phones that are look like speakers out of my car. Anyway this kid crashed superhard off a hit and so this kid gets up to the top, looks around, then hits the jump mean while everyone is screaming at him that this kid ate shit. They didnt collide but my buddy told me it was close. Anyway dont ski with retarted huge head phones. I suggest if you are going to ski with music put a head phone in one ear and keep it lould enough that it makes lift times faster.

kinda true, but only if there's tourists bombing through the park. i can't tell you how many times those idiots cut in front of me when i'm dropping into a booter.. same with the racers. for some reason, ripping thru the park skiing around us like we're gates is the new hot thing. fuckers.. the only thing is i'm not sure how much hearing them is going to do, because if someone were to hit you, there's no stopping it. music helps me forget about the morons screaming shit from the chairs, and puts me into my own zone.

If I ski park, I'll usually have it on a little louder than usual, but I can still hear things.
If I'm just skiing around, I'll put it on quietly.
If I'm skiing trees or someplace where I need to know everything thats going on around me, I'll turn it off.

I alwayssss rock the tunes, especially if riding alone. But when you are with a buncha friends I always slip my headphones back off my ears so I can discuss and whatnot, the whole nature of freeskiing is very social to some extent and you gots to have respect for your friends around you. But once shredding commences its a different story.

it can be dangerous but if you just pay attention all will be great. get an ipod shuffle at best buy and get like 5 dollar insurance and if you break it they replace it for free

If u can ski nice and have a nice line it isnt dangerous at all. people who cant ski and suddenly turn right or left are dangerous. And if u just look around u and pay attention than there is nothing dangerous about it. And also people who come from above they attention on u not u on them...

i blast my music... with an ipod... always. if you ski fast, you never have to worry about whats behind you, just in front, and thats what eyes are for.

skiing with music not on too loud takes your mind off of the concept of falling, so you ski better

ya I sometimes ski with music mainly if im goin solo in the park. i use earbuds and my ipod mini.
the thing I do so im not afraid of breaking it is I put it in a pocket thats quite literally near my nipple (lol nipple tehee) or actually my heart that is a very safe place for an ipod.
