i certainly hope some of you fuckin tools have experienced salomon skis before you blindly spit shit out your asshole. it was only their older models that they fucked up. every company that tries something new can't get it perfect the first time, but they learn to fix it. right? i was one of the first people to have an ipod because i've been a mac user all my life and everyone thought they were terrible. shitty sound quality, a stupid rolly thumb thing that gets all fucked up, a heavy metal body.. they were less than ideal. now look.. everybody has a fuckin ipod. it's these companies that risk failure in order to try something new that i don't appreciate people bashing just because it didn't work out on their first try. at least they try something new, as opposed to every other company that figures 'hey, we're selling this type of product well, lets never ever change it'
^word, that sums it up for all you foam core bashing homophobes out there that fear change, sure salomon fucked up the first time round, but at least they put their balls on the line in the name of progress...
if you've skied salomon and don't like em, fair enough, but 'skied' and 'salomon' are the key words, don't just go round dissing em coz it's the 'in' thing to do
You made this thread worth reading for 3 weeks. I love salomon. I rode the vincent dorian pro models and the spaceframes and loved them. Changed to a wood core ski and broke it in 2 months. Sure i could have broken the salomons but i didnt. Salomon skis kick ass and people just dont want them to cuz they are a huge buisness. Screw all u people who hate salomon. There skis kick ass and there riding team proves it. No other ski company can compair to the team that they have, sure it might be part money but they cant do the shit they do on a piece of shit. they ride them for a reason. And i rode them for the same reasons and i have to pay to ride them. Thats y the dumonts are gona be on my feet next season.
i have the 1080s andthere sooo nice. ive ridden like 50 days this season so i can tell that they r softer, but my friend has this years fujatives and he is noticing the same thing. mine r lighter tho and have mad pop!
Every ski looses pop. My 4frnt stl's were non flexable when i first rode them. now they are just as loose as any salomon ski ive ever been on. Its something u have to deal with when u ski. Its always gona happen and when a way is developed to stop if from happening i garante salomon is the name on the ski.
i just dont like how 1080's or thrusters have a backwards flew with the tail really soft and the tip stiff.. doesnt make sense to me and ive tried there skis and binding s and just dont really like how they ride or look im not hateing onthem for foam cores .. although i dont like them.. and i dont like their binding much either becuase you have to fiddle with them way to much where as my look p 10's feel way more reliable and you dont have to adjust them
Compared to wood, foam compacts alot easier, and to lesser forces.
What causes a ski to lose its pop is the constant compacting and expansiion of whatever is in the core. Inherent with this is the fact that salomons flatout lose there rebound faster than a wood cored ski currently. Eventualy, everyski will be some sort of composite core. Right now however the lamination techniques are still shit and don't allow for that to happen, and still have the same performance over time that a wood core ski will have.
If you want something like and snappy, get bamboo cored skis, not foam.
salomon is always a year behind everyone else, they had sarah burke on there team for quite a while but they didnt make a womans ski until a year after every other company in the industry.
and if you heard mike douglas salomon is making a new mega fat skito compete with the prophet, sumo, thug etc. i highly doubt salomon would ever make such a ski if pollard never came up with the prophet.
and you cant deny that salomon snowblades were produced after line started making skiboards.
as for the 1260, from what ive been led to believe the 1260 was made before the 1080 but salomon put it into production earlier.
and dont think about playing the binding card because im not going to defend line bindings, its a great idea to have one binding and several skis, but it was doomed from the begining, you cant make money doing that.
also salomon originally is a binding company, and most people can regognize a salomon binding without a second thought so salomon surely would'nt change their whole design just because another company has a better binding.
oh yeah, im more than aware the 1260 no longer exists, you dont have to point that out, i was just comparing similar skis with different core so i dont understand that aspect of your argument.
on a final note ofcourse salomon is pumping truck loads of cash into this industry, why wouldnt they? they making boat loads of money off theyre twin tips,
they want to keep this industry growing so they can make more money. i mean if i owned a logging company wouldnt i support the logging industry? my point is that it is in fact your argument that is invalid (on most fronts at least)
oh and i cant forget simon dumonts pro model which i supposed too be good for buttering, it took salomon this long to make a ski thats good for buttering?
not that im saying the 1080 isnt good for buttering, but its wasnt designed for it
i dont think it will retain the reverse camber very well. i forget what ski it is but theres something that has a sheet of metal in it and thats what they reccomend doing it with. metal will retain the shape better than wood but i bet wood would better than foam. i think theyre easy to bend but i dont think theyd stay bent
