Replying to Kirpan: Weapon of religious expression
For people that don't know, a Kirpan is a religious knife that the followers of some religion must wear.
In Quebec, in 2002, a 12 year old kid was caught with the Kirpan and been suspended for possession of a weapon. The kid fought the rule to the provincial courts and won.But the court of appeal rejected the case. The Quebec superior court accepted the case and accepted it.Then, the case was revised by the supreme court of Canada in which the decision was made:the Kirpan is a symbol of freedom of expression.
Alright this in debating time. Do you think that a religious weapon is acceptable at schools?
Here is my opinion:Its bullshit. A weapon is a weapon whatever the circomstances. Is personal religion more imporant that public safety? The Kirpan is illegal on planes, but perfectly legal at schools.Does anyone know that someone with a religion can be extremely dangerous? And on top of it, a 5 year old kid is allowed to wear it at school. Where is our society going? I want the Kirpan banned at school.
