Kirpan: Weapon of religious expression

For people that don't know, a Kirpan is a religious knife that the followers of some religion must wear.
In Quebec, in 2002, a 12 year old kid was caught with the Kirpan and been suspended for possession of a weapon. The kid fought the rule to the provincial courts and won.But the court of appeal rejected the case. The Quebec superior court accepted the case and accepted it.Then, the case was revised by the supreme court of Canada in which the decision was made:the Kirpan is a symbol of freedom of expression.
Alright this in debating time. Do you think that a religious weapon is acceptable at schools?
Here is my opinion:Its bullshit. A weapon is a weapon whatever the circomstances. Is personal religion more imporant that public safety? The Kirpan is illegal on planes, but perfectly legal at schools.Does anyone know that someone with a religion can be extremely dangerous? And on top of it, a 5 year old kid is allowed to wear it at school. Where is our society going? I want the Kirpan banned at school.

Its not really a random thread becasue it is still a problem in Quebec. The supreme court has made a decision so its a big issue here in Quebec.
Here is an example of a ramdom thread:

In traditional Scottish kilt, there is a knife called a skean dhu, I bet they wouldnt let some scottish person bring that to school becuase their white and it has nothing to do with religion.

its a huge deal to sikhs to have that with them.
they aren't even sharp, some of them aren't even made of metal.
Besides the fact that even though sikhs wear turbans, no sikhs are "terrorists". They just own businesses, because that is the most noble profession according to their religion.

Im all for free religion and freedom of expression, but something just seems wrong with weapons being at school. If its not lethal (as in sharp, has an edge that can cut) then that might be cutting it. If its a symbolic kirpan (thats blunt)then sure, its totally within your right.

If they are plastic, then I'd allow it. But an actual knife, no way. If it can seriously hurt someone then it shouldn't be allowed, end of story. The person possessing the Kirpan isn't even necessarily the person who will use it. What if it gets jacked? It poses both a danger to the owner and to other people.

there should be something attached to the sheath and the knife so it makes it impossible to pull it out while at school

Get one made of wood or plastic... As long as it's not more lethal than a sharpened pencil, it's all good.

There is no way that should happen. We have our customs here and they have there customs there, stop trying to make us Durka Durka Land 2.0.
When you go to Japan, you take you shoes off when you enter a house; we don't go mucking up there house, we follow their customs.
here, we don't allow weapons in school. Easy as that. Don't bring it.
Maybe he won't use and and maybe he is a really nice guy, but now everyone knows he has it on him and thats a problem in itself. Someone gets in a fight at school and steals this kids knife (even if it is dull).
So where do we draw the line now?

Even that is a touchy thing now. I remember in grade school if we EVER made anything resembling a gun or a sword we got in huge shit. This was pre-911 if that even matter.
Weapons and fakes shouldnt be allowing in schools period.

The thing about the subject is its in the Canadian Constitution that every public place must tolerate all religious expressions.
The worst thing is that the decision was 8-0 accepted. I guess older people don't understand the danger in public school.

I don't know anything about our Constitution but if it puts the rights of religions above the general public safety, that isnt right.
