Freestyle without twin tips?

I like hitting the parks and I would even like to start sliding rails and boxes etc. but I dont have twin tips, I just have some all-mountain Blizzards. I mostly ski moguls and glades and the like but I would like to get into freeskiing. My skis arent that old and I cant justify getting new ones just to ski the parks. Is it acceptable or even possible to slide rails or boxes or do spins off jumps without skis specially designed to do that, i.e. twin tips, atleast simply to learn the ropes before committing to freeskiing?

one thing you should know is that non twin tips arent designed to handle the friction put on the edges when you slide rails. you could tear out the edges on yourreally nice blizzards, really quick. you can get some good park skis, [invaders are best for price range] between $275-$300 and i dont know that much about bindings but if i were you id get some reasonably priced park skis.

What kind of twin tips could you get for under $200? I understand that it must be much easier to ski switch with twin tips but would it make sliding boxes easier? I tried it with my Blizzards and was suprised at how hard it was to slide even the easiest looking box. Are the bottoms of twin tips constructed differently to make sliding easier?

Right now I'm using K2 skis, that are from some rental place. So they are rental skis. You can slide rails, hit jumps, hit boxes, and mostly all the same things you can with regular skis except go off a 50 footer and try to do a 180. Just don't land backwards off jumps and you'll be A-okay. Cause when you think about it, thats the only thing a twin does for you.

It doesn't make rails and jumps easier until you get down to the nitty-gritty (edges being dulled a LOT because of grinding and center mount for swing wait) but when your just learning, you don't need to worry about that stuff. I believe you can probably get last years Line 1260s for under $200 or a little bit over (like $220 or something) Ill find a link.

Just use your blizzards until you learn how to do 3's and if you like it pick up a pair of older lines or fujatives for 250$ and keep on from there.

look at it this way, the better you get on the blizzards, the easier it'll be on twins.
if you are looking for twins, check ebay, i was in sort of the same position as you and found brand new fujatives for $150.

i skied park for a year and a half before i got twins, it'd be stupid to invest money in specified equipment that you coudl end up hating when you give it a try.

of course it's acceptable. if anybody tells you isn't tell them that they need to get their park rat ass out of the park.

it's not like twins are much completely horrible in trees and moguls, get twins and you're good for both! plus you look like more of a gangster

i won my first pair of twins in a rail jam. I didn't care very much at all about having twins at all (although i quickly realized that they make freeskiing considerably easier). You're fine without them until you want to takeoff switch. Then it gets a little sketchy.

Jumps are fine, just don't land switch.
I wouldn't ruin your skis on rails though. Get a cheap pair of park skis for that.

I have been skiing freestyle on big mountain/carve skis-not twin tips (buying some later though). It works, you can slide boxes, jump, do tricks, etc. It's just harder that's all. If you want get some used twin tips to try out...and buy some later if you like them better.

You can do just about everything except for landing switch into deep powder and taking off switch without twin tips.

Dude, I know plenty of people that try and do 720s on single tips... There's no difference at all if you're used to the ski.

yo, bro I did half of last season. you can certainly do it, landing switch is at times not cool, but if your just starting park then dont worry about it. then if you really get into park, try and trade your skisin at a ski-swap or something like taht for a pair of twins

I learned 3s and 7s before i had twins. Unfortunately, i couldn't take off or land switch, so I never learned 5s. I later learned 9s with twins but I still still can't 540. You'd think it would be simple, BUT IT ISN'T. Sigh...
