Pencil Spins

Ok, so I have a little problem. I can spin fine. I can do 540s, 360s, switch 360s. However, I can only do pencil spins. I cant seem to do a tucked up spin.

Do i need to get more air to do a tucked up spin? Will it slow my rotation down?

you are probly trying to tuck up before you start your spin and its messing wiht your rotation...try jumping off the ground and tucking or whatever, and then before you hit the jump, just kinda think of how you did it off the ground and do the exact same thing. dont concentrate too hard, just remind yourself how you did it off the ground and you should be fine

practice w/ gorilla steez. your lower and thus easier to grab. and if you don't it sometimes looks like you still did

Knees = Bend.

Slightly bend them, and then keep bending them until you find a comfortable position and you can spin just as well like it.

try to go for a grab in your spins this will get you tucked up.

yeah goin for grabs work because even if you miss you are still tucked so its not pencilly.. but just remember not to reach for the grab too soon.. its a spin with a grab not a grab with a spin

hahah, i thought u guys were talkin bout spinning pencils in class on your fingers. Im nasty at that i can do 3, 5s, and 7s, all switch and reg, as well as unnaty 3s(left hand)
but the real progression comes with the pencil flip, switch, unatural, yeah its tough alright..


eat at least 4 bannanas a day to help with your gorrila steeze

heh me too I thought you were talking about the pencil spin around the thumb.. anyways I had this problem with my 5's cos I was concentrating on spinning too much.. just do it relaxed, bend the knees and either grab or cross, this keeps you low and tucked and no moreugle ass pencil spinage.

Pencil spins are as fast as it gets, if it wasn't then ice skaters would tuck up.

But tucked up spins feel so much nicer and controlled

I just realized something, how are you at tucking up on straight airs?

Are you able to tuck it up for the majority of time that you are in the air?

If you can do them fine with straight airs, then just start off with tucking up 180's. Once you got that down the 360 is just right there.
