What should I get for new skis?

I'm looking at buying new skis sometime this offseason, which should I buy? I'm looking at Volkl Karmas or Line Prophet 80s. Any comments? I need stiffness for the days I get stuck ripping on ice, but also want width for crud and powder. I also want solid skis that won't crap out on me after 2 seasons; I know line and volkl are both solid ski builders. is there something else i should be looking at

I think the delam problem is basically an isolated incident. I have a friend with Skogen Sprang Pro Models and they are sick. Does anyone know what the replacement to that ski is?

SALOMON SALOMON SALOMON. If u want something that will last forever i would definatly go salomon. Foils are perfect. Fat for powder. Stiff for the landings and preatty much bombproof. It all depends on how big u are but the 182's are a killer ski. K2 builds industructible skis also. The fujis are awsome and the public enemies are also a great ski. I wouldnt go line Just because of what i saw out of the invader. Salomon foils sound like the perfect ski for u.

do NOT buy a salomon ski.
if you want line, go with the prophet 100. fat is the future.

Yeah I have pretty much eliminated the armadas and salomons...I think I would go with prophets or karmas. Do you guys think that 100mm prophets are too wide for bumps? Also, I think chronics are too soft and too park oriented to rip on icy trails from time to time--is that a safe assumption. Thanks for all the help so far.

Yeah, I'm not getting AR5's, PEs are too much a park ski, and I think chronics are too. I hardly spend any time in the park, preferring to hit cliffs and hike for untouched powder, but also staying on bump runs and the occasional groomer.

Um if you hardly spend any time in the park at all(like me) get the titan nines!BClosest thing to a one ski quiver that ive found. I'm purchasing my 06/07 in about a week or so. Good in pow, manageable yet fun in the bumps, sickest thing ive skied in the trees, and absolutely rail the groomers. So much pop. Not a twin, but no twin will offer the performance of the titan nine. I think the compramise of a full twin vs. semi twin is worth it in this situation. If you want to know any more info PM me.

How are Chronic Wides? I am worried that they will be too flexible to ski on icy east coast hills.

i would say no to the vicious..Its pretty soft and you wouldnt be using it to its full potention on the east. I would stay away from Line, but that just me.

Why would you stay away from Line? Is it personal preference, or what? I think the current frontrunner is a Karma, but the benefit of Line skis is that they come with the extra fat base and edge. The ability to tune these many more times than the average ski is an advantage, as I'm soon going to college and won't have the budget to replace skis every other year. I think the prophet 100 would be a little on the wide side, the chronic wides would be about the correct width. How stiff are the chronics though?

nah chronic wide wont be too stiff...since i hear they are identical to last years skogens they will be fine, i ride skogens except in the park where i use my invaders but my skogens are bombproof and rather stiff, great ski
