i just wonder if anyone else has the same problem?... when im at home watching ski movies or just thinking of skiing, im so pumped to try new stuff, but when i hit the park im pussy out... scared of injuries and stuff... its really pisses me of, because its a problem to progress...
i dont get that problem cuz i know what it feels like to fall hard, but not too hard cuz im light. but i know a bunch people with that problem. dude just get out there and try stuff, dont worry about getting hurt, unless its just something crazy. like falling off a rail or not landing a 40 footer wont kill you
another thing ive done is have someone kick my ass to get me pumped up.
Last year when i was gonna try this c rail (more of a box) for the first time i just said some shit to my friend who's jacked and told him to kick my ass a bit. i got mad pumped up and just went and tried it, i didnt even get it first try, but i got him to punch me again and then the second time i nailed it.
it helps, i guess it makes me think "pain ain't that bad" and then i just do shit.
make sure youre warmed up and comfortable on whatever youre hitting. if you dont feel youre hitting the jump solid straight airing, youll most likely fuck up if you try spinning.
and try to ski with someone else. someone who is better than you can give you tips, and when you start getting to the same level, you can follow them around the park and watch how they do something, then 5 seconds later you do it, thats helped me before. someone whos at the same level will help you because then there will be a little competition between you=motivation.
what i generally do to get comfortable in the park each day is do a straight run through then just build from there so next run do 3s then 5s then 7s it helps alot to just build up because it wont be your first jump of your day and you will be comfortable spinning before you try to spinb something bigger
the only time ive got kinda seriously hurt is on a rainbow that i had done like 20 times and it only took me out for like 2 weeks, but then again i dont have a huge kicker at my park sooooo...but seriously dont worry about getting injured, and if u do just remember its good for your matabolism
I am DEFINITELY a pussy. It takes me forever to do something...then once I get it, I realize it wasn't that bad afterall. Although you'd think I'd apply that to the next time I tried something new...but I don't. I blame my pussiness on the fact that I'm getting older. (or at least that's what I've been telling myself)!!!
I think everyone needs to relax... you all seem to have the mentality of "oh shit I can't do a cork7 blunt like that one kid"
Chill, fact of the matter is, 95% of us will never be pro, so why worry about it. Try stuff when you feel like it and don't worry about about learning 10 new tricks each week, skiing is about fun
one of my first attempts on a rail ended up with me falling and screwing up my already broken hip. it hurt so much. now im sometimes pussy out when i attempt boxes and jumps, but for some reason i always go big on the cliffs and natural drops from western skiing. i love the cliffs so much more, so i guess im lucky, but im always pissed off at myself when i skip a rail or spin i know i can do if i tried
Sometimes you just have to go out and try it, that's how you learn to do new things. Though it does suck when you do get injuries, if you can get past the fear of hurting yourself and push your boundaries a little bit at a time, you'll notice that you'll progress as you attempt new tricks.
I think everyone gets scared when they are about to hit a big jump or drop a gnarly line, but isn't that what it's all about? Being scared overcoming that fear for a brief second to drop in and that feeling of accomplishment when you stomp it or even if you eat shit.
yea i tried my first 7 last week. i totally wrecked on the first try because i didnt knoiw how much air i needed to do it. but on the secobnt try i nailed it.
its all about who im skiing with. if im skiing with ppl who are sick and much better then me i go for more new things and get better but when by myself i dont new that big of new things.
yea exactly, and really when you fall on a rail you just need to remeber a couple steps to keep you out of danger. I personally dont even think about it when im skiing, like what if its to windy and i blow over, shit like that, my mind is always clear, i just sing the pepto bismol song sometimes. but other than that just stay relaxed and focused. If all else fails smoke some weed.
Yea man i got the same problem like i just wanted to throw down when i watched a new movie or something. I found its much easier to take small steps toward progressing and then like one day you'll just get pumped at the park and shit goes down. Those are the best days ever. Dont know what makes them happen but i wish it was everyday
its not always a bad thing tho. its a natural instinct to not want to try something new when you know you can get hurt. its overcoming that instinct that gets people so amped. think about it. im sure tanner doesn't even think about throw cork 7s anymore cuz he's so used to them. he has to throw shit like switch 9s over chads to pump him up.
i try and ski with people who are better than me and that helps push me a lot
just gotta go for it. i was the same way before i learned 3s. i always psyched myself out, just couldn't do it. now, i throw threes first hit of the day.. just gotta force yourself to do it, and after that, it's sooooo much easier. it's all in your head bro.
now don't get me wrong, i'm not saying to go huck 10s n shit. that'll just get your broken. gotta build your way up, take one step at a time. just give'r
For sure listening to music. This may sound cheesy but it makes me feel like im actually skiing in a movie, it also takes my mind of the things about to do and makes me just go for it. Even when your about to fall it just makes the experience less scary.
