Backyard Rails

Hey guys,

Im looking to build my own backyard rail. I just want a simple rail that i can learn on, like a box rail or something would do. Probably about 2 -3 feet high. It doesnt have to be anything special, just something that won't break. Let me know if you have any suggestions or good links. I'm sure there is SOME site out there that explains it, but I'm yet to come acrossed it. Thanks Again..

you can just make a rail out of a pvc pipe, it is the cheapest and easiest way to make one

nooooooo don't use pvc pipe!!!!!!!it's plastic tubing there's no way it's gonna stand up to skis, use real metal, or wood, try lookin at some skateboard sites, they always have prints for rails, it's the same thing, but whatever. i'm using the top of an old swing set, the kind you get at walmart or canadian tire, it works really well

or snipe one from a cronstruction site, there's always pipes around, or if you find an old highway sign, take that rail, they are really good

PVC = easiest to make, cheapest to buy etc. BUT like mah man mr.cheese said, if ur starting out, sometimes your edges wreak havoc on PVC

Mr cheese = dumbass. i have a pvc rail, it works wickedly. just get it atleast 3 inch diametre. and get some bolts, drill through, and bolt it to the wood. problem solved. but if your going high tech, talk to mauii, that guys a genius.

and it slides really nice when it is cold out :D. slides like metal. it is slower sliding, doesnt hurt as much, and you fall les easily =good rail for beginner. also, mine cost 20 dollars to make, including the 13 feet of pipe, the 20 feet of wood,m and 2 bolts, from hm hrdwre.

I use pvc too, but I've been thinking of making one framed with wood, (2 by 4, or 4 by 4's) then one long 2 by 4 on top with sheet metal or roofing metal flashing on top. That stuff is so malleable that you could bend it to make it a nice flat top rail, like most mountains have, only on a budget.

I have a 9 foot pvc, ( learning rail, and am going to make a17 fotter, USE pvc to learn, It wont wreck ur edges and is cheap and easy to build

i had a 12 foot pvc rail for like 2 years.... there all right for learning but if you wanna keep trying new stuff and not have to worry about a messed up rail find a way to make a metal rail

Unless you have access to some welding equipment you can't really make a good metal rail or atleast a double barrelled one, but with pvc its eeasy as hell. You can even make kinks pretty easily too.
