Blue Mountain Patroller Called Me a Stupid Idiot

So I'm riding at Blue this friday, and I decide I want to end my day doing some nice pow underneath the 6 chair at the north end. There's a few fun drops, some fresh snow, and plus not a lot of people ride in there cause they have it closed off.
Now, I understand that its a run that is closed off. They're worried about liability and such. I just get frustrated that in Ontario, they have to close off every single feature that is not in the terrain park. There's so much fun stuff you can ride, but they close it off. They can't just put a warning sign up instead. I thought part of the contract when purchasing a lift ticket was accepting the possibility of injury or death or whatever.....yet they put up all these safeguards! Its not that bad out west, but i guess its cause people can ski properly and there aren't all these people trying to do shit they can't handle.
So I try to enter the run (which I do almost every time I'm up there) and somehow I get caught by a patroller I didn't see (which is funny cause I totally thought I looked around to make sure I wouldnt get caught...i'm an idiot)...he gives me this huge lecture on how its closed off because there are trees and branches that could impale a "stupid idiot" like myself and he doesn't want to ruin his day to save some stupid idiot that killed himself.
So alas, I'm just complaining because if there is good snow, it seems that its rare you get to ride it out East because they need to close it off....you never know what lurks underneath that powder! Perhaps there's a mountain with rocks and such under that snow!
Ugh, anyway. just a rant. fuck i wanted to ride that run.

Word up man. danm ski po's close off all the good runs. the dumbasses are too lazy to patrol it. all ski patrolers are assholes, people who can ski those areas should be able to.

eurosteeze, amen to that. i don't want to say all patrollers are assholes - as my dad used to patrol and I know there are definitely lots of cool ones out there, but come on, give us a break and let us ride! I remember they used to clip tickets for skiers in the halfpipe!

agreed, you guys are all new but you can go to where it says "my NS" at the top and click forum icon then upload one from your computer. its not mandatory but it makes the forums more exciting and gives people a way to recognize you.

people who ski blue are lemmings, at the begining of this season i started skiing this steep tight bike trail when the snow was deep, now its always tracked out cause people follow my tracks, i guess if they open that run a lot of beginers will get hurt, also you set a bad example skiing there
im not lecturing you im just trying to see their side

there's no real option but to be a lemming - its not like there's a lot of uncharted terrain to ride. there's definitely some if you look for it or if you know where you are going. i don't think you're the only one starting new tracks there at blue!
they have runs open along with all sorts of uneasy terrain out west that they don't close off and they don't seem to have a problem with beginners - so i don't understand why they do here. oh well.
bad example? i think its a good example - "Look how good of a skier I am while I shred this gnar with my extreme steeze. If you keep practicing and take those lessons, maybe one day you'll be able to do this sick pow like me. With steeze of course."
ha
oh well. i'll just have to enjoy the backcountry in Whistler this weekend. no one will be clipping my ticket there.

ya it used to be something like an easy skier-cross course. but they haven't opened it this year. but if you take the run...after the little fence drops there's a sick drop to the very left (or if you're going up the chair, its on the very right) - its on the way to the pipe.....its man made but pretty fun. check it.
i'd much rather be riding the pow that's there instead of doing icy skier cross. although skier cross is fun....

haha well, as you said it is your own fault for getting caught. i ski those lines everytime i goto blue and have never been caught, its pretty sweet with some fresh snow you can hit like 3 drops in a row. the big one at the end is pretty fun when the landing isnt concrete.

For sure. totally my own fault. first time i've been caught. i'll ride it again a bunch I'm sure...but this weekend i'm off to whistler instead! ha!
the three drops are super fun. i think its one of the better runs at Blue. And ya...the last drop is the best!
anyway, I'll see you at Blue sometime! cheers.

Some of you might be a little young to remember the old Alpine Slide, but that's what that trail is. You know the old kick ass plastic sleds on a concrete track running down the hill?? They've left it to be used as an unmaintained skier cross sort-of-run. It's only open when there's enough natural snow to keep it smooth. I think it really should be integrated into the Terrain Park.

The thing is, there has been lots of natural snow on that run at various points this year, and it has been scarcely open.
Man, I remember the days of riding that Alpine Slide and the little red sliders that went down them. Apparently they closed that fucker due to it being dangerous? It was helluvalottafun!
Ah well, now they dont have it open for anything.
So I just came back from Whistler - I don't think I rode anything where a patroller said don't ride. Even better, we rode with a patroller for 2 days and he took us through some of the sickest terrain! Some great stashes were found. I wish some of the guys out here were like that....if we had good terrain!

Are you guys talkin bout the run under the lift that goes beside badlands? when i was at blue i thought that there was a waterslide and the bottom of that.

Used to be an adult waterslide at the bottom and concrete sled track down fron the top of the hill.
Now it's a tube ride and kiddy-park.
...Nice for families though...
