I told Jason they should make a 184 and he said they were reluctant to do so because in the past not many stores bought their bigger park skis, like the Pollards last year in 186 and whatnot. Then I mentioned that that was because the Pollards were stiff and never really skied centeres by many people. Since the Anthems and Invaders are soft and center mounted you need more overall length to keep unough tip I told him and he seemed very receptive. I also mentioned how the 185 ARV was more popular than the 175 and he was shocked. Maybe they'll make them bigger in the future.
the 186 ep pro's were not stiff skis by any means.
and having a long ski because it is center does make sence. ex. Atomic urban 184.
Is the 185 actually better selling then the 175 according to sales figures?
The problem with stores not selling long skis like the ep pro's is because of the fact the the majority of people that come into a store to buy skis are only novie skiers without much knowldege, and sales dudes are told to sell skis shorter. I have on almost every occasion asked what size of twip tip ski i should be on and just about any ski shop (excluding shops like d-structure and jibij etc) they will say there is NO REASON for me to ever go over a 175cm ski. and im 6ft 160lbs.
Hence stores sell alot of shorter sized skis, easyier to control, easyier to ski, that's the basic mentally anyway.
Yes, a longer ski DOES make sense if you're center mounting it.
Centermounting=less tip/more tail then you'd get for normal skiing. You need a certain amount of tip for your skis to react properly and turn well. Ever noticed how your center mounted 172s feel chattery and way too quick? Ya...NOT ENOUGH TIP YOU FUCKING IDIOT.
Then, take into account that most twintips are soft as shit, meaning that you can't rely on stiffness to give you the stability you need at a shorter length, and you start to realize the importance of length.
I can't back up skimasterflex's statement about the 185cm ARV being a better seller than the 175cm, but I can say this: We sold out of the 185cm LONG before we sold out of 175s.
That long-ish atomic jib ski makes PERFECT sense, and even more so when you start thinking that people will be riding that ski for big booters, park/urban rails, and even just general skiing.
I hope you don't work anywhere near a shop. If you do, I pity your customers.
at the only place in town to buy skis(outdoor store) they don't tell lies those people are just straight retarded. i ask a simple question and they are like uhhhhh yeah well ummm let me go find the ski guy who is just as dumb, so i get fed up and leave and they still don't know whats going on
