Why is Bode Getting Trashed?

I opened up my most recent Sports Illustrated magazine, and flipped to the Olympic section. What do I see, another Bode bashing piece of literature. And what do the authors at SI say about Lindsey Jacobellis’ fall, they play it off like it’s all good. They bash Bode for three whole pages, but come on, this is how he skis. Anyone who follows the US Ski Team knows Bode’s style, and he’s definitely skiing how he usually would. But when Lindsey Jacobellis throws a method when she has a gold medal within her grasp, everyone suddenly forgives her. Showboating isn’t rewarded in the Olympics, tricks aren’t rewarded in Snowboard Cross. Why is she doing that?
I know some of you will soon thrash me because this thread is about racing, whatev.

bode's gettin trashed because everyone had such high expectations for him that hes not living up to, and the fact that he says he gets trashed before he skis doesnt really help him if hes losing

bode is a crazy guy, he just throws himself down the hill, i quit racing right as bode started winning on the world cup, the fact that he parties and stuff almost kept me in racing because i thought maybe not all racers were all obsessed with winning instead of having fun. as much as i dont like racing you have to respect bode.

i have to give bode credit for skiing on one foot in qualifiers or practice. he could have injured his leg bad specially going off a roller and going into a tuck one foot when it didn't matter.

theres no doubt that bode is a amazing ski racer. The reason why SI was saying all that was because in an issue before, they were talking about how great he and the us ski team was. They were looking for ways to cover up there mistake, so they bashed on him

its jus all the hype the us team got. its gotta be hard to live up to that hype bode got even wen he wasnt skiin good (the whole world cup season minus a few races) the entire us team is doin bad xcept for ligety killing the combined. we just arent having a good olympic year in alpine skiin. the other thing you gotta think about is that olympics dont matter as much to them as the world cup does. olympics just matter to the public.

everyone is giving jacobellis shit for her crash but i can understand...i don't think it was showboating as much as it was trying to stay stable and tucked...maybe the method was leaning towards showing off but i guess only she knows what her true intentions were

he gets "trashed" because he thinks that he can stay competitive while training a weak workout routine BY HIMSELF that he created BY HIMSELF. I dont know if you guys saw it but Piccabo Street (I guess thats how you spell it)said on sportcenter "he[Bode] needs to grow up, realize there is a problem, and get a real training routine". I couldnt agree more. He also disrespects all authority figures such as the US ski team and various coaches who are ultimately trying to help him out. And to top it off, when asked if he was dissapointed with his result in the downhill, he said "at least I dont have to go down to Torin" which is where the medals were being given away. I guess rolling out of your rv at 11:00 am and not inspecting the course is not a very good decision after all.

bode is a racing hero..if it wasnt for him i could care less about the skiing things in the olymics...i think they should have a skier cross like they did for boarder...thad be ill...but the only rule is u have to have bagy clothes and poles no helmet

Bode is a superstud and he just doesnt give a fuck, when hes skiing 80% hes still faster than most people and when he tries to ski 100% he just crashes because I don't think anyone can handle that speed. People need to cut him slack, you can't win everytime.
Did anyone ever consider the fact that unwinding and partying the night before a big race helps him? What if he has bad anxiety and would stay up all night if he just tried to sleep like a normal person. Plenty of people do random shit and have fun before they compete instead of obsessing about performance, it helps take your mind off all the Bs that fucks you up.

I for one, can't blaim Bode miller for not giving a crap. The alpine skiers in the other countries are treated like sports gods and receive the support of their country 365 days a year.
American skiers get into the media 3 weeks every 4 years and we expect them to perform. Bode does well in the world cup races because its about pure individual competition. The Olympics is about giving it an extra bit of umph with the backing of your country. How can we give Bode 3 weeks of support and expect him to deliver like the Austrians?

I don't really know that much about the guy...nor do I care. Although, my first thought is...give the guy some slack, he's only human! Many of the best athletes in the world have never achieved their sport's respective top prize. Michelle Kwan is the perfect example. No one can sit there and say she's a crappy figure skater simply b/c she never won Olympic gold. Yet she's still one of the best figure skaters in history. The list is endless...

media is a bitch.. they talked him up cause he did well in 2002... that was 4 years ago.. its like gettin mad at jonny moseley for not winning an event at xgames this year if he competed.. Up and comers are better and bode didnt do as well as people thought..
as for lindsey.. shes an idiot and we could have swept snowboarding in the olympics..
