Replying to A Season Lost
I live near Syracuse, New York where last winters total snowfall was 59 inches. So far this year about 95 inches have fallen. I ski at the shitty little hill known as Toggemburg. You can really tell the difference in the skiing from last year to this year because Togg hasnt had to make to much snow. There a great cover of natural snow therefore it really hasnt been to icy.
So it has really been a great season so far. But then, two weeks ago i broke my arm. I wont be able to ski for another two weeks and im not even sure if there will be much skiing left then. Even if there is snow i will still have a cast on and wont be able to jump.
Im so depressed. This year was gonna belong to me. But then i blew it on one jump. I had so many goals for this season. I guess ive done alright so far ; Ive got my 3s dialed, i almost landed a backflip, ive got 180s down (except of course the one i hurt myself doing), i can slide a couple of rails, and ive been working on 540s and switch take offs. But its all as good as done for now.
The park at Toggenburg has always sucked ass. But me and my posse have been showing the hill crew what they can do to make it good, and we got it through to the owners that unless they make some changes they are gonna lose our business. So finally this year the park was decent. They started off small but every weekend there were new, bigger hits, and more varied rails. We did it. We got what we worked for. But now i cant even go and enjoy the park i helped make and watch it grow.
Now all my friends are elivating their skills past me and i wont be able to compete with them. I guess all i have to look forward to is maybe going to High North or Windells. Even though i can more than pay for the camp and flight there myself, my parents think its a waste. They dont understand that skiing is my entire life. I think they might think differently if they ever actually saw that i have skills. But for now im stuck with my ski magazines and dvds.
For those of you that have had an injury you know what im preaching. But to those who have been fortunate enough to stay healthy; be thankful for your opportunity, ski for yourself, calculate the risks you take, and stay safe.
