So....anyway...you guys might not even know or remember who this random midwest_rep is but anyhoo. I remember coming to this site way back in 99 when it was just a java site with a few videos and pictures, nothing else. I've been skiing since I was little and I bought the original 1080s which I still own but I now see there is no way it will ever go back to the way it used to be. Back in 2000, I remember going to my local mt. with my yellow 10's and throwing 720s and grabs and everyone was in awe. This is not the case anymore, 'everyone and their mother' has twinnies now and the amazement of tricks on skis has lost its appeal. But i guess this is good right? Progression for the sport? It is all good, props to everyone making a name for themselves in this wonderful and amazing sport. I'm 21 now, and every time I see a new kid on twin tips they are usually a punk bitch whom mouths off to me. Now I know this is not always the case but at my mt. it is. I'm just telling you how I see it. No offense intended. Bottom line: I've been part of this whole 'movement' for 5 years now. I bought degenerates when it came out and then bought state of mind(good movie johnny) but I'm moving to Chile to ski for a while so I am going to be out of the loop. I look forward to seeing what progression has taken place when I get back and just maybe I will buy a new pair of skis to replace my aging 1080's and my pocket rockets. I want to tell all the younger dudes who are just getting into it, push it and go big. BUT respect skiing and where it came from. Jibbing did not always exist and it took work and creativity to bring it where it is today. Work on the basics, learn to carve and turn. learn to put pressure on the downhill ski and learn to keep your hands forward. Well, this was a way drunken ramble. Look into what I said and don't take it lightly. Skiing is a great sport and I do it everyday, I just don't want to see it go down the drain. Keep on pushing and progressing, be unique and always ALWAYS ski for yourself. Skiing is an individual sport, it is an activity you do for yourself. Whoa, time to pass out.
