iv skied the last 2 days witout poles and it is soooo much fun,so all you haters out there try it b4 u ragg on it!! it so sick cos its like learning all your tricks again!
very true, i tried it yesterday, everyone probably thought i was a poser cuz i suck, but i thought it was kinda fun, and didnt have any problems doing anything, i also felt a little more comfortable in the air for some reason
i ski with poles. sometimes i throw them into trees from the chairlift and then ski with no poles. its pretty fun without poles cuz u cant take anything seriously. then sometimes only one pole gets stuck in the tree and i ski with one pole. it makes no difference in the park whether or not u have poles, it takes like 5 seconds to get used to and then its no big deal.
HEY EVERYONE,
I JUST POSTED THIS TO SEE HOW MANY PEEPS HATED ON IT,I SKI WITH POLES EVERYDAY BUT IT WAS CRAPY WETHER ONE DAY SO I TRIED IT AND FOUND IN ENJOYABLE, SKIING IS ABOUT HAVING FUN SO JUST GO OUT THERE AND DO WHAT MAKES YOU FELL GOOD,
having poles is just an excuse to cover up bad style. even if your arms are waving around and hella wobbly, if you have poles people will accept it.
without poles is tight cuz then it forces you to try that much harder to always be relaxed and not moving all over all the time. it keeps you in tunes with your feet and how your weight is balanced and shifts so you dont become reliable on something that you dont even need (poles).
im hella high right now too, and now motivated to write a paper on the subject, which i will later post prolly...hah
You can mimick the actions you do with your arms "with poles" when you are skiing without them and you will see that poles are just meant to keep your arms out and keep you forward...I skied without poles from 1996, starting back east to about 2002, a year after I moved out west. It's actually very much the same and you can ski bumps and trees and whatever you want...it's a touch harder at first, but if you just think about were your hands should be if you had poles...you can pull it off on the big mountain quite easily after some practice...I mean hell, I somehow did it back east for 5 years. I have since 2002 gone back to skiing with poles because of the mainstream aspect and the fact that it was really frowned upon back then and I was trying to get sponsors. Maybe I have an excuse to go back now!
i think most people have trouble 'accepting' no poles becuase its such a radically different style than they are used to.
in the 80s and early 90s, if you werent wearing skin tight ski pants or jeans, you were fucked up. people didnt accept baggier pants and jackets cuz it was so much different than what they were used to. same with tricks. daffies and spreads were the shit for a while, until someone tried doing something new. first, grabs were considered to be horrible style; same with off axis spins and stuff. however, as people got used to seeing them they began to like it more and more until it became the norm.
its the same with poles. no body needs them, everyone just thinks you do. once people realize that and accept it, everyone will be skiing with no poles and everyone with poles will be the old guys still stuck in the traditional mindset.
its the cycle of life guys, c'mon. everyone should just ski how they wanna ski and whatever trends arise, will arise. but just keep skiing how you wanna and dont worry about everyone else all the time. shiiiiiit.
maybe i misunderstood the 'free' part of 'freestyle skiing'...cuz that implies that you are free to do whatever you want, however you want...
dude, when you go from doing one thing to another, of course it's not going to feel right for a little while until you get used to it. As far as going fast and high....ummmm, there are all kinds of pros skiing without poles in the mid-west...I can even remember a guy without poles in Volume Vid. Mag. as far back as 2003 and he was sick!
I'm originally from VA, but I rode with craig in steamboat for 2 seasons...I was out all this season with double knee inuries, but I'm actually gonna be riding/filming out of summit county next season. You?
i skied with no poles when i forgot mine and i hated it so much, when u dont have them ur hands just feel empty and akward(sp) like u dont know what to do with ur arms
skiing with no poles is like having a guy suck ur dick, it feels good untill u look down and realize ur gay
are you all being serious? i hope this is a late april fools.please say it is?
skiing with out poles looks sooo 1996.it looks terrable, what advantage to you get from not having them???i think it lookes so bad in the park aswell, not steezy atall.just 'gay'.
i really hope this is all a joke, or a nightmare.i hope im not skiing arround in 2010 with poles and all the kids are looking at me and laughing at 'that oldschool twat'.
o well, poles will always rule real skiing-the backcountry.
