iv skied the last 2 days witout poles and it is soooo much fun,so all you haters out there try it b4 u ragg on it!! it so sick cos its like learning all your tricks again!
I have been seeing a lot more pictures of peopls with out poles, i havent seen to many people where i ski with out them. but the amount of pics is way to many, poles are a part of skiing, it looks kind of lame with out them. yeah sure you can try to be all stezzy for rezzy with out them on rails and shit. fact of the matter is use poles it looks better. and dont be a pussy and be scared of crashing on them.
because when you learn with poles you think you need them to ski, specifically the extra weight on your hands makes initiateing turns EASIER..therefore learning how to turn using your body/legs, not your hands makes you a better skiier...you begin to think "out of the box" kind of
i agree that skiing without poles is very challenging, and i dont mind how it looks, if i was good enough, i might try it but u cant hate on people for having their own style
whenever i see someone ski with no poles all i can picture is a 5 year old with bright red mittens thats stuck in the liftline moving his skis back and forth. and then i laugh.
haha me too. i might give it a try for training purposes cuz I could see how it would help you be more aware of balance. but i do not or ever will think it's good style.

yea its hard when you wanna lean on something, like poles. i can't do it because when i am waiting to drop or something i wanna sit down. going in lift lines is pretty lame as well.
i did it when i broke my poles, i didnt like it, turning didnt feel right, i was stuck in the lift line, and like the guy up there said skiing trees was terrible
occasionally i'll instruct in the park without poles, but when i'm actually trying to throw down in the park or skiing anything in the backcountry, i can't go no-poles. Kudos to those who can though.
It really is pretty fun, I'm all for my poles and poles in movies/comps but just fun days in the park goin no poles is pretty fun...."don't knock it before you try it" is a good slogan....
when i let my boarder friends use my poles to push themselves on flat ground w/o unstrapping their bindings i go nopoles but otherwise i dont like it at all it just doesn't feel right but whatever floats ur boat cause even pollard did it for a little while
actually it makes you more solid, you dont depend on them for balance. You can nab your grabs like a madman, i dont do it often but it is fun. thatss wht skiing is about.
its all in personal opinion. i think some people look steezy when they ride without poles.but if someone likes riding without poles thats there opinion no point in getting mad over it at all. i wonder if it would help your balance cause i think poles help my balance alot...i think i'll try it sometime and see what its like
i ahvent done a cork 3 since mid july, that was also coincidentally the last time i skied without poles... and also coincidentally the last time i knocked myself out... so im rolling with polls.
I used to always see these threads, and just pop in and be like thats gay. But this weekend I skied with the best skier I know and He was skiing without poles. I realized if your just having fun, tryin something different, its fine, but if you think you should throw your poles away and that skiing with out them is better then with them, your gay
