skiing v. snowboarding parallels.

I have been a skier for 12 years, but i snowboarded for 2 of those 12. Ive been a subscriber to freeze for 3 years and freeskier for 2,I own 5 ski movies, and have been visiting ns.com daily for nearly 2 years. As many of you can relate, over aLL this time i have soaked up more knowledge about skiing than anything else. i have kept and repeatedly read every ski mag i have ever bought, and i have memorized every ski movie i have ever seen. Its come to a point where i recognize everything i see in the mags and can identify every mtn i seen in the movies. I have seen every jump from every angle on both camera and video. Through all this i came to the conclusion that skiing is the most unique sport in existence. Then i bought a few issues of transworld snowboarding....
I went into shock; the adds in the magazine are the exact same as in freeze only with a snowboarding rider. The photo sections are full of the same jumps as in the freezer. The 2 sports are alomost the exact same but the magazines hide the other sport.
If you think about, pro skiers and boarders are all out sessioning and building hits together and progressing side by side. Yet in the magazines we read we only see one half of the experience.
For example when i see a backcountry booter in freeze, i think of it as something that only skiing can create but in reality pro skiers and boarders are out there side by side building and hitting the booters together. Then why is it in the magazines we only see half of the equation. Why arent there any combo ski/board mags. The 2 industries profit off of separating themselves from the other yet really they are so similar.
im not even sure if what i wrote makes sense, but if it does to you share your thoughts. I just wonder why skiing and boarding are made out to be so different in the magzines yet out on the the 2 sports are united.

i think it'd be cool. i think pics of both are sweet and you could just sit and wonder what it would look like w/ opposite sport

I think that it would benifit both sports a ton. The smoothest skiers say they copy their style from snowboarders and tons of snowboarders are seeing how awesome skiing is and are trying both. I think it would acelerate progression in bothsports tremendously.

right now freeze is owned by AOL/Timewarner, and is located in Boulder, CO. But after the last issue of this season the magzine will become a Transworld publication and will move to the Transworld HQ in Oceanside, CA. Transworld publishes other extreme sport mags: Transworld Skateboarding, Surf, Stance, Snowboarding, and BMX and soon FREEZE.

i have to admit its a good idea but i havent seen any other mags out there that do that. also, i think that skiing needs its own place not to be combined with snowboarding. i see where ur coming from though

Anyone who thinks its a good idea, post your thoughts. If that many people agree why hasnt anyone tried it. Together we are the market for the magzines and if our opinion is voiced we can change things.

Remember Krietler's ''Boards in Motion'' magazine? And I think the (good) point you raised explains one of the key differences between pros and punk bullshit-spitting kids.

Just in case anyone missed it, Freeze is owned by AOL Time Warner, as is the Transworld group. And yes, Freeze is moving into the Cali Transworld offices, and yes that means that good things will happen to Freeze. And if someone published a kick-ass ski/snowboard mag, I'd be first in line to buy it.

it would be kick ass to have a double mag. but, people are saying waaay too much that they copy from snowboarding. which is true to a point. but skiing has evolved so much, that people are taking from themselves. the article in freeze sums up what i'm trying to say. it's to late to try to make sense right now.

You'd think that a SKIING magazine would have SKIING pics and a SNOWBOARDING magazine would have SNOWBOARDING pics... a combo magazine won't happen b/c Transworld would want you to buy one of each mag, not just one mag...

Its a great idea, but most of the little shit snowboarders think skiers are gay, and suck ass, so if the 2 magazines combined none of those snowboarder kids would buy the magazine anynmore, cause it has skiing in it. Therefore the magazine would make no money.

It would be sweet...Buut like what andy said - Theres not much money in it for transworld...And unfortunately about half the people who ski/board are open to the other sport...we need to blur the line a little more i guess

'Maybe Sims' new campaign will do some good after all. Maybe we'll finally be angry enough to realize that what's happening in skiing today is amazing. If some people outside the sport don't want to see it yet, screw 'em.
We're not riding to please anyone else, we're out there every day because we're skiers. And that's all the explanation we need to give.'
That makes me cry. I am going to go subscribe to freeskier. The two sports could co-exist with relative harmony if it werent for those stupid ads that tear us apart. It not just the stupid ads either. When I ski with my snowboard friends I get critizised at the hill by the snowboarders and the skiers alike. That's just not the shizz man. We need to chill and share the hill, they need to relax and let us ride in peace.

i think a dual mag would be cool but it would mean less profits for a company so it probably wont happen in mass scale anytime soon. as for that sims ad its rediculous almost as ridiculous as sims snowboards i used to like em when i first started boarding (which i still do on occasion) but their product is now poor as are their ads.
sorry for bringing this post back up

yeah the writer of that article was freakin awesome. he knew exactly what was happening, and put it into words, which is what we are trying to do all the time, people say 'he stole this from us' or 'they stole that', and it gets old, they can't say shit about stealing, because they got it from skaters, and also there would be no mountains with lifts on em for the boarders to ride if it wasn't for the original skiers. both sides need to stop bitching.
on the idea of the dual mag, yeah that would be dope to have it in both, but it will never happen because the big wigs in the mag company still think that we are enemies. which in turn teaches the little ones that we are when we need to put that shit behind us and grow together

hey, good point about not making it, cause they wouldn't make as much money, but they could still do like one or two mega issues at the beggining and end of the year. it could be included with the Freeze and transworld snowboarding subsriptions. That would work. God, that would be sooo cool. i might see what some boarders think about it on some snowboard forums.
