Got caught skiing closed BC at Sierra, consequences?

So long story short, a friend and I skied gate 5 yesterday, and it was closed. We had amazing skiing but ski patrol and security were waiting for us when we got out. We got our passes suspended (potentially for the rest of the season), and they did want to arrest us, but some grey area in the law of forest land and resort land prevented them from doing so. All in all, it was a very stupid decision and we were lucky to not of caused an avalanche/gotten lost. The reason I am posting this is to ask if anyone has been in a similair situation and what has come out of it?

Yep. We did follow some other tracks in, but all in all we were aware it was closed.

Its amazing how mature your handling it, I just admire that. Ya know how you thought you were lucky and thought about the avalanches and stuff....

that happened to my brother and his friends wen i wasnt there, one trail in the park was closed, but him and his friends went through, the guy wasnt really paying attention after he took all of my brother's friend's passes, and my brother never gave him his pass, and for once he actually did something really smart, he was pretending he already gave the guy his pass and went, "wen do we get them back?" and the guy goes, "next week" and leaves without noticing

funny cuz if i caught get skiing a closed trail in the east, its no life or death situation, its just if we want to hurt our skis. so far ive barely ducked ropes this year cuz skiing in bounds is bad enough, and theres no snow else where. but when i go out west i figure trails are closed for a reason cuz patrollers know some stuff. but u dont care what i have to say so ill shut up

you should have been skiing at alpine where it's open boundries and you can go where the fuck you want on your own risk.

No, I can relate. I'm from the east coast, and when stuff is closed, it's because of lack of snow, not avalanche danger.

you should write a letter to the ski patrol admitting your mistakes n shit and asking for the pass to not be suspended for the rest of the year

Actually, we plan on doing that. In talking with them, we mentioned that we have very little awareness/experience about the backcountry, and would like to learn more about how to be prepared. They gave us a bunch of resources, so we plan on creating a Backcountry Safety and Awareness club/group on our campus to make sure everyone else is informed and education on backcountry riding. It's good stuff to know and we'll include that in our letter, so hopefully we get our passes back.

ive been caught skiing in the fucking trees between trails at JIMINY PEAK, the gayest mountain on the east coast, twice. each time they got real fuckign mad, and threatened to arrest/prosecute me.
the gayest part?
i come down and as one patroller is yelling at me, the other one goes "you're a real good skiier though"
JUST BECAUSE IT WOUDL BE DANGEROUS FOR YOU TO SKI IT YOU FUCKIGN FAGGOTS DOESN'T MEAN IT WOULD BE DANGERIOUS FOR ME
skiing ob out west is bad news, but honestly for the east coast is should always just be like a "ski at your own risk policy"
in conclusion: the east coast sucks and im stuck here, i want to kill myself

Speaking from experience. You'll lose your pass for awhile, probably for the rest of the season. You won't be arrested or brought up on charges. Do the honorable thing, don't get pissy, apologise, be sincere, and buy the ski patrol a beer at the local watering hole.
I got caught OB in Brighton last season, pass got clipped, they yelled a bunch, but I took it on the chin, manned up, and did the right thing. This season I've skied at least 20 days with the same patrollers that clipped me, and they've even taken me OB with them a few days.
Good luck man.

i dunno if you've read his posts but he seems like he's doing the right thing. seems like he knows he did something wrong and hes trying to fix it. much respect

I was only trying to reinforce his already positive attitude, and add a little of my own input.
As far as the brighton open gate policy. Unless it's explicitly marked "Do not ski" you can duck ropes. My mistake, however, was ignoring that warning. But the pow was siiick :)

I agree totally, be sincere and apologise, i got caught ducking the gate between alt/snowbird and got pass clipped. One of the patrollers took a spill and injured his knee pretty bad. You can get arrested and brought up on charges, so be totally sincere and try to make good with the patrollers, whom you potentially put at risk
Good Luck

at my gay local mountain they blew snow for like a week straight and they still didn't open new trails so we were fed up and we went down the closed trail. so i was riding up the snow making piles and it was right after our last storm so still kinda powdery and i got caught cause the ski patrollers little daughter was on the lift and the trail goes under the lift. i was so pissed and they ski patroller bitched me out and i kept my cool for like 10 minutes and just exploded. my anger got the best of me and they wanted to call the cops. i apoligized the next day and got my pass back

just say you saw some kids fuckin around and they moved the ropes so you thought it was open, but really one of the kids had fallen and knocked it down. so you got the wrong vibe from the kids. and then you skied it thinkin it was open. and it was the kids fault.
am i a genius are wot??
