under $200 you'll get a piece of shit. my advice: find a place to rent one. Rent it a few times and decide if you like it. I know too many people that have spent $500 on a board, $200 on a wetsuit, $$ on surf racks, etc. and went probably 3 times before they realized they didnt like it. I like them because I can buy all their shit for like $200 total!
I got a great Al Merricks board for 113 plujs shipping on ebay. very good condition. had a small repair on the top but now its pretty much in brand new condition. it just looks ugly because what they used to fix it is a darker brown then the rest of the board. but I plan on painting it soon.
look on ebay man. I did and im seriously not dissapointed
its a 6'6 performance shortboard with squashtale. not sure what the model is but if you want when I receive it (counting down 4 more days) ill send you the dimensions.
I think it might be the K-board (kelly slater pro model) from 2000 or 2001 not sure though
speaking of cheap boards, i just got a new fish from my friend who bought it 6 months ago, used it once, and then just left it in his garage. Sick board, perfect condition for only 175, i felt like i was stealing it from him. Here are some pics (its the one on the right):
if its your first time surfing, rent a longboard for a few times. if you plan on longboarding forever, buy a longboard. if you eventually want to shortboard and you already know how to get up, buy a funboard or egg, and surf it for a year, then buy a shortboard. a funboard or egg is anywhere from 7'3'' to 7'8''.
