Replying to ** A lesson to be learned**
This is a story about an employee at my warehouse at backcountry.com, I thought I would share so you would remember that this is a very dangerous sport and you must be calculated if you are going to huck. (I'm going to change the names)
HEy guys-
Some of you might know me, my name is So and So. I worked in the warehouse
until about 2 weeks ago. I hate to be the one to pass on the bad news.
our fellow worker "Steve", who worked in to warehouse until about a week
ago. He quit with hope of getting an accounting job up in Park City. For those
of you who know "steve", everone loves him, and he is a great guy. Yesterday his
life changed forever.
"steve", and three other former backcountry workers were skiing up at brighton yesterday. We decided to ski of the backside of Great Western. The snow was light and the conditions were safe. OUr two buddies "guy" and "man" skied down the face just fine, and then "steve" went. "steve" went off what looked to be a small 5 footer but had not seen what was below. I could just see the bottom of his board as he tumbled. The guys hiking the ridge who were EMT's and off duty patrolers saw the fall and started yelling. I skied down as fast as i could and "steve" was sliding down the 45 degree face. I stopped him as fast as i could, and could tell he was in bad shaped. I kept him as still as possible tell the others skied down. For about an hour or more i sat and held his head still and the EMT's worked on him, and call life flight. He could not feel his legs and was in an extreme amount of pain. Life Flight took him to LDS hospitl were he remains. I got to the hospital as fast as possible, only to have the worst confirmed.
"steve" broke his neck, smashed a number of vertabres, broke ribs, and his sterm.
Ryan is now paralyised from mid-chest down, and they say medically he has no
chance of walking again. He is having back surgery today and by monday he
should be out of ICU. He needs friends to help him through his.If you have any questions feel free to email me or call me
"so and so"
ps "steve" said look before you leap....
